Report: Fitz gave Cards a list of QBs he wants

Larry Fitzgerald is heading into the final year of his contract and he's made it clear that he wants to stay in Arizona. If they give him a lot of money. And if they get him a quarterback who will help the team win.

He's reportedly gotten even more specific, too, naming Kevin Kolb and Marc Bulger as guys he wants in Phoenix, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Kolb is apparently Fitz' top choice, but the most glaring part of the report is the lack of Derek Anderson, Max Hall, John Skelton and Donovan McNabb on the list.

McNabb should be one of the top free agent quarterbacks on the market, despite his age and poor 2010 performance, but the Cardinals aren't a team that's been considered likely to show any interest in him, should the Redskins end up not picking up his option.

Kolb's a nice target, but the problem is the Eagles will probably want a first-round draft pick in exchange for their talented backup signal caller. (Which would mean if the Cards give Fitzgerald everything he wants, they're going to severely hamper themselves long-term.)

Bulger's a much more realistic target, obviously, because he's simply the backup in Baltimore.

Either way, though, the Cardinals would be heavily catering to a single player's demands and still leaving themselves open to a nightmare situation if either Bulger (he is old) or Kolb (he is still somewhat unproven) didn't work out in 2011.

I was thinking the same thing, Packerfan.  If they believe Kolb is a legitimate long-term starter in the league, what's wrong with using a first round pick to acquire him?  Would they really be better off sticking with Skelton or Hall, and using the pick on some other position?  It's doubly true when you consider that Kolb has some experience and some success.  Sure, he's still got a lot to prove... but we know a lot more about him than we do about a guy like Mallett, Locker, Gabbert, et al.

Derek anderson is better than alex smith, dude you no nothing about football, no quarterback on the cardinals is better than smith. under the right coach alex smith can be a real good quarterback thats why harbaugh wants him back in his westcoast scheme

You'd take Alice Smith? That would be asking for the absolute worst QB available, outside of Jamarcus Russel. He can't make decisions, and Anderson is better than him. Boo. Shaun Hill would be a better choice, but he's a lifetime backup. I personally like Kitna, and feel he is a better line away from being great.

How is this different than any other player in history asking for a player?  Brett Favre lobbied multiple times to get Randy Moss in Green Bay, and can anybody say he was wrong for doing so?  Chad Johnson wanted Owens in Cincinnati, and while they had a lot of problems this year, it's hard to pin it on 85/TO.

Say he's being selfish if you really want, but think about it.  He had a Pro Bowl season, with terrible quarterback play and no running game around him.  Imagine if he actually had a top QB throwing - he and Boldin won games by themselves in 2008 with Kurt Warner throwing.  He had probably the single greatest postseason by a wide receiver in history, and he's clearly the best player on the roster.  You might think he's being selfish, but he's actually trying to help the team - they proved they can win football games (SB appearance in 2008, huge playoff win over the Packers before losing to the Saints in 2009).

What's the difference between those teams and this past year's?  They didn't have Kurt Warner or Anquan Boldin.  That being said, Steve Breaston can be a #2 receiver.  He was solid in 2008 after Boldin went down with injury.  A quarterback will put the two of them as one of the better 1-2 receiving pairs in the league, and it should give the Cardinals a chance to run the ball with 1st round pick Beanie Wells.

To get a good QB they so need what is the problem with guving up 1st round pick? Is it worth more then a QB that can lead the team? They sure don't have that now. Kolb could have bif future and they should get him. McNabb is done won't be the same ever again. He just didn't show this year he has anything left. Unless they can get a great QB in the draft they have limited choices. Bulger is older so go with Kolb. If Cardinals don't go for him or anyone better then what they now have for QB's next year they suck again. The west is wide open all they need is a good QB as Warner showed them. When they have that even Cards can go to a superbowl. How great was Kurt Warner to have taken Cards to superbowl. Where he lead a winning drive only to have D give it back. He might be the greatest QB ever just because he got cards to superbowl. We might never see that again lol.

He better make better demands while the team is listening! Kevin Kolb and Marc Bulger are the demands??? Wow!

Yeah, maybe they are better than what the Cards had this year but I can see both of these guys falling flat on their face too.

I am just very surprised to see this is who Larry is asking for. I guess Kolb is an unknown that can possibly turn out to be a great. However that is a big ‘if’.

As for Bulger, the guy’s record as a starting QB in his last 35 starts is 5 – 30 (over 2007 – 2009 seasons – he did not play in 2010). I don’t care how bad a team is; a decent QB would ink out more than 5 wins in 35 starts on natural athleticism alone. Obviously, Bulger is not the answer.

I would think McNabb, Orton or Palmer could be easily traded for and would make for much better ‘demands’.

Heck, I’d even take Kitna, Shaun Hill or Alex Smith over Kolb or Bulger.

The Cards also have the #5 pick in this years draft so that should be considered as well.
