Michael Vick is walking on dangerously thin ice, because, according to CNBC’s Darren Rovell, he canceled his scheduled appearance on the Oprah show.

As we all know, Oprah controls the world,* so it can’t be great karma for the Eagles QB to cancel on someone as powerful as she. Not when she’s strong enough to help Tom Cruise enter a career downward spiral (you remember the whole couch-jumping incident), turn an author named James Frey into a hero before crushing him into tiny faking pieces on a subsequent episode, and send everybody in her audience to Australia.**

*OK, she ONLY owns her own production company, magazine, TV channel, radio station on XM Sirius, about 10 residences and (obviously) a whole bunch of money. But yeah, she kind of controls the world also.

**If it sounds like I watch too much Oprah, you’d be wrong. My wife happens to watch it every day, and more often than not, she’s giving me play-by-play of what’s happening (over my stringent objections). There is, however, one blogger on the CBSSports.com team who actually HAS been to an Oprah taping, a fact that delights me and horrifies him to no end. I will not give his name in order to protect the guilty, though I will say that he’s not an Eye on Football blogger.

Anyway, Rovell makes a good point. There probably wasn’t a ton of upside of Vick going on the show. He’s already won himself so much positive publicity because of the way he’s played and the way he’s acted since returning to the game after his prison term, and he (gasp!) doesn’t really need Oprah.

And while Oprah could anoint him as a wonderful person in front of millions of viewers, she also could turn on him. For Vick, it’s probably not worth the risk. Expect Oprah’s wrath, though, and don’t expect it to be pretty.

UPDATED (6:03 p.m.): Vick's statement, courtesy of Rovell:

"After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future."

So he grew up in the South where other people don't obey the law and as a reslut, we have no reason to expect him to obey the law?

What in the world makes you believe for one second that southern people don't obey the law ? Your Interpretations and social depth are equal to only your reputation scores and status ! You're an Amateur but a super star of an idiot.

I sure hope Michael Vick knows what hes doing.  Oprah has more power in this country than Michelle Obama.  Vicks turnaround story seems like the type she likes.  I wonder what made him cancel.  I could see that he wouldnt want to give any CBA updates or anything, but soemthing must have made him suspicious.  He will honor that reschedule if hes smart.  Air time with Oprah could very well mean more money in his pocket from endorsements.  I also still believe the guy has turned his head around.  I hope so for my Eagles.

Whether your experience is dog-fighting in the South, rumbling in the Bronx, or gang-fighting in East LA, nothing will compare to going mano y mano with Oprah and Gayle.  He will get bitch-slapped from Chicago to Philley in about two seconds.

To insure that he will be in her good graces, Michael Vick has sent The Oprah a puppy.  Knowing how The Oprah can be when cornered, Vick insisted, "How can she not fall in love with the precious Pit Bull I gave her as a peace offering?"

Sounds reasonable, except that line of thinking takes away any expectation for personal responsibility and  / or any attempt to progress as a society away from this kind of behavior.

Undoubtedly the most intelligent comment I've ever read on the Mike Vick situation. Thank you for some insight and common sense!

BREAKING NEWS!!!  Updike Jr. didn't actually kill the tree, but he confessed to funding a Tree Killing Ring.  They go around killing trees all over the place.  But since he didn't actually kill the tree, should he be punished the same as those who did?  I may adopt and rehabilitate a tree that Updike tried to kill.
