Bob Sanders to visit Jacksonville

On the heels of the news that former Rams S Oshiomogho Atogwe will visit the Redskins, NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora is reporting that former Colts S Bob Sanders will make his way to Jacksonville to take a look around.

Sanders, who’s played only nine games in the past three years because of various injuries, is one of the most talented safeties in the game. But given the choice to sign either Sanders or Atogwe today – and if you were to discount Atogwe is a free safety and Sanders is a strong safety – you’d almost have to go with Atogwe.

Atogwe has been one of the most solid safeties around while Sanders has missed 64 of 112 regular-season games in his career.

Just for context, here’s what the guys at Pro Football Focus think about Atogwe:

So what’s the bottom line? Is Atogwe worth chasing for teams that might not have many other opportunities to upgrade at safety? Short answer is absolutely. He is a well-balanced player. He has the skills to be effective on the blitz, to help out against the run, and to make plays in coverage. He is a player that offenses need to be aware of, but he can be inconsistent, and he’s not perfect.

And on Sanders:

Sanders, though, has been on the field so little over the past few seasons that we didn’t really feel we could make any concrete conclusions beyond what we all already know.

I wonder if whatever team does decide to sign him if they base his pay on a 2 or 16 games salary given his past 3-4 years of games played.

flaSUCKSgoIOWA.......ENOUGH SAID. This guy drives around with a big Iowa sticker on his car like they're the Steelers. Iowa is not Ohio State, Alabama, Wiconsin, Florida, Texas or Oklahoma. What has Iowa ever done to warrant  any respect except having two JAGUAR guys thats from the state????? LMAO

hes sniffing around to see what they will offer until his next visit with the next team. the pats will be next. seeing the hitman released...its like i felt when harrison was let go. saddness. one of the greatest to leave with little fanfare. those two, two of the greatest colts, not named peyton manning deserved a better ending. i LOVE the hitman but the colts wouldnt have released bob sanders if they didnt think hes pretty much done. having said that i would VOMIT at the sight of seeing him be a sparkling kitty with a bozo for a coach. even if its standing on the sidelines. chunks would fly.  i hope the jags sign atogwe because he sucks. i think in the end bob joins the other hawkeye and ex-teammate, chad greenway of minnesota.

Yeah, he will get to face Manning 2 times over the next 6 years, based on his inability to stay healthy.

Bob Sanders is one of those rare guy who still plays football reckless abandon, and if (and that's a BIG IF) he's proven to be one of the safety in the conversation as one in the top echleon and would a trmendouls upgrade to a fledging unit on the defensive side of the ball for the Jags.
