Broncos sign Champ Bailey to new 4-year deal

Plenty of words have been used to speculate on whether or not Champ Bailey would return to the Denver Broncos (especially given the presence of Patrick Peterson at the top of the draft board), but those words are useless now as the Broncos announced they've reached a new four-year deal with Bailey.

That's according to John Elway on -- where else -- Twitter.

"We are thrilled to announce that the Broncos have agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with cornerback Champ Bailey," Elway tweeted. "The commitment and loyalty that Champ has shown to the Broncos, the city of Denver and this region is exemplary."

"We're fortunate to have Champ with the Broncos for a long time. This is a GREAT day for our entire organization and our fans."

Bailey reportedly put his house on the market earlier in the year, and it certainly didn't seem as if he'd end up coming back to Denver -- despite Elway's earlier praise for the cornerback -- especially as they rebuild (they do know they're rebuilding, right??).

This probably means that the Broncos won't be targeting Peterson now, and opens up the significant possibility for a guy who has some similarities to Julius Peppers (Da-Quan Bowers out of Clemson) to end up for a guy who once coached Peppers (John Fox).

At the very least, they can actually seek to upgrade other defensive areas of need. And either way, Champ's going to retire a Bronco, and a lot of mock drafts are going to get re-drafted first thing tomorrow morning.

Dude you don't know what your talking about. Champ is still one of the best run support corners in the game. Comparing him to palamau is a joke, they play completely different positions. That just shows how little you know about football. A backside corner is only there for cutbacks on a play away. If they take off at a deep angle to run down a play the defense will get burned. I'm a denver fan and was skeptical of the portis trade. I also think that the resigning may not be the best direction(although its our front that needs the work), but don't write when you know nothing. Ask any NFL coach , player, or someone who knows something about football and they'll tell you Champ is one of the most physical corners in the NFL...moden1 please!

i dont care about revis im a denver fan and i dont like the champ re-signing ....hell i didnt like the trade of portis for him....i want a physical corner that can support the run and make plays from the back side like palamau if it aint on champ side he look like randy moss he just stand there saw that in the raven game i just looked at.....where the desire to win at all cost? i want players who dont give up on a play even if it wasnt their assignment that got blown....go make a play!

"Look at Champs performance against the top WRs and look at Revis. Champ consistently shuts down the best. Revis sometimes shuts the best down but sometimes gets lit-the-hell up."

LOL

I'd like  you to show us an example of REVIS getting "lit-the-hell up"  hahaha  (and no, don't use the the play when he pulled his hammy as Moss made the one handed TD grab)
