Plenty of words have been used to speculate on whether or not Champ Bailey would return to the Denver Broncos (especially given the presence of Patrick Peterson at the top of the draft board), but those words are useless now as the Broncos announced they've reached a new four-year deal with Bailey.

That's according to John Elway on -- where else -- Twitter.

"We are thrilled to announce that the Broncos have agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with cornerback Champ Bailey," Elway tweeted. "The commitment and loyalty that Champ has shown to the Broncos, the city of Denver and this region is exemplary."

"We're fortunate to have Champ with the Broncos for a long time. This is a GREAT day for our entire organization and our fans."

Bailey reportedly put his house on the market earlier in the year, and it certainly didn't seem as if he'd end up coming back to Denver -- despite Elway's earlier praise for the cornerback -- especially as they rebuild (they do know they're rebuilding, right??).

This probably means that the Broncos won't be targeting Peterson now, and opens up the significant possibility for a guy who has some similarities to Julius Peppers (Da-Quan Bowers out of Clemson) to end up for a guy who once coached Peppers (John Fox).

At the very least, they can actually seek to upgrade other defensive areas of need. And either way, Champ's going to retire a Bronco, and a lot of mock drafts are going to get re-drafted first thing tomorrow morning.

This is bad news. I was hoping the 49ers would sign Champ and Nnamdi during the off season. Looks like they will have to draft one of the top corners in the draft.

The fact is that statistically Champ is still the #1 CB in the NFL and he's doing that with a D-line way worse than Namdi and Revis have.

Give Champ the DL of the Raiders or Jets?...Give me a break he's handsdown the #1.

The reason people are comming down on champ is because...

1. His age...people just look at 30 and assume, "Yep, he's lost a step". There is still nothing on film to show that Champ has lost a step.
2. He plays for the Broncos a small market team. He just doesn't get the pub that Revis does.
3. He's not a loudmouth like Revis.

Look at Champs performance against the top WRs and look at Revis. Champ consistently shuts down the best. Revis sometimes shuts the best down but sometimes gets lit-the-hell up.

Broncos sign Champ Bailey to new 4-year deal

Hey scbull ... I can name a corner that went to a Pro Bowl in his thirties.  This guy actually went to a couple of Pro Bowls in his thirties.  What was his name again?  Oh yeah ... Champ Bailey.
So anyway moron.  Next time you try ripping an idea, you might want to cover your tracks a little better.  I admit that Champ might not be at the top of his game in year four of this deal, but he has a couple of great years left in him.  He is one of the few shutdown corners in football and one of the best open-field tacklers in the game, not just in the secondary.  So take your ugly self and comment on something where your opinion makes a little more sense.  You just sound jaded as it is.

Broncos sign Champ Bailey to new 4-year deal

This is the dumbest post I think Ive ever seen.  According to KC Joyner who reviews every play of every player in the NFL, the only CB that didnt give up a TD against the player he lined up against at the start of the play was ....... CHAMP BAILEY.  If you ever see the best tackling cb, yes he is - STILL, getting passed by on a td it was because he left his man to help out on someone elses coverage. Try watching the whole play instead of the end of a play. oh and this isnt my opinion, this is KC Joyners research.  So i guess your smarter  than both of us.

Are you kidding?  Track his stats.  Yes he has lost a step but he is better than most.  And he won't make many plays when he is not targeted that much.  The guy is still good.

One of the best tackling corners ever, he has to give up cushion as our secondary has had to contain the run game, great deal we made know lets fix our defensive line.

Broncos sign Champ Bailey to new 4-year deal

he is not physical enough ....look at all the conference championship corners they could tackle...if champ doesnt make a play on the ball it usually goes for 6! watch the tape!!!!.......we need to get pressure on the ball that should be the focus ...offense dont think will suffer too much under fox , especially if he can get deangelo williams to come to denver!.....another wideout would be nice with a te that can catch
