Shawn Lee, a member of the 1994 AFC Champion San Diego Chargers, died in Raleigh, NC on Saturday night at the age of 44. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

Lee, one half of the "Two Tons of Fun" tandem with Rueben Davis, played college football at Northern Alabama and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1988.

"We were drafted together in Tampa, but we came from two very different backgrounds," said Davis. "Shawn wasn't the best athlete but he was always working to make himself better and he always worked harder than the rest."

Lee played for the Bucs, Dolphins, Chargers and Bears over a 10-year career. He is also the sixth member of that 1994 Chargers team to die at an early age. David Griggs died at age 28 in a car crash, Rodney Culver died at age 28 in a plane crash, Doug Miller was struck by lightning, Curtis Whitley overdosed, and Chris Mims died of a heart attack.

There is a memorial service for Lee at Springfield Baptist Church in Raleigh on March 4, 2011, and, according to the Chargers site, there's been a website created where fans can post their thoughts and memories about Lee.

Despite them beating the Steelers in 1994 I was fond of that team and rooted for them in SB29. That Chargers team seemed like a good bunch of guys. Stan Humphies was always one of my faves.

It's strange to see what happened to some of those guys. Culver died in a Valuejet crash if I recall. Griggs was killed after the 94 season. All my thoughts and prayers to the Lee family.

Personally, regardless of the cause of death, it's sad! A life ended long before it should have.

Congrats for stupid comment Moron, yes like Pete Priscoe are a Moron.  What about all of us who's life can change in one second.  Ask the kids who fathers are in the military and were wounded or killed in a moment. What police officers, firefighters and other safety professions.  The former umpire who was paralized during a robbery or anyone known someone who was paralized in accident or killed in accident.  We all deserve what can get.

And THAT ladies and gentlemen is why they should get EVERY nickel they can out of those fat old white guys sitting there in their owners box. While they`re healthy, because in the blink of an eye,it`s all over. And the only thing the owners have to worry about is their wife catching them with a young hooker. One guy said in another post that players have an option in life, that they all have college educations. If you believe THAT,i`ve got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale you might be interested in too.Have you ever heard a lot of those "college graduates" speak ? How would you like some of THEM as the voice of YOUR company ? This may come as a surprise to a lot of football fans, but in the boardrooms of America, where the real money decisions are made for the USA,they speak American ENGLISH,not whatever the hell that is when they show the players at the start of the game TRYING to pronounce the name of the college that they "graduated" from.Indeed, there`s actually a few that can speak English and did learn some sort of education that may provide a living. But not many.Uh,unless they learned one of the two languages spoken in China, but you wouldn`t be buying a lot of bling with the wage scale there lol

2 suicides and now another death. Couldn't have been all those drugs and chemicals the teams and the league were pumping into them for ticket sales and tv revenue , could it?

Well, to be honest, I care about the periphery facts surrounding the point of the story.  If the article is wrong in any way it shows a lack of respect for the deceased (as if he was not important enough to have someone...anyone...check the facts before printing it).
