Cam Newton's struggles in the throwing session at the Combine Sunday have already been well documented. His strategy of reading a prepared statement and refusing to acknowledge the extent of the "mistakes" he made earlier in his career while at Florida has been hotly contested.

Even more of a concern, however, is that the reigning Heisman winner is also struggling answering football questions during team interviews at the Combine.

NFLDraftScout.com has learned that at least two teams gave Newton poor grades for his "football character" following interviewing him at the Combine. Newton, according to league sources, had a difficult time drawing up plays and how to react to different defensive schemes when asked to work on the white board.

There is no denying Newton's potential, but his success in spread option offense much simpler than anything he'll see in the NFL continues to be his greatest challenge. Not all teams are convinced he has the ability to make the adjustment to the complex defensive schemes he'll see at the pro level.

Those of you who noted John Elway's behavior when he got out of college are correct. I remember his pre-draft demand to be taken by a team in a warm-weather city. I remember his famous complaint when he was drafted by the then Baltimore Colts, "It's cold in Baltimore". He was even willing to go to the Raiders in Los Angeles. When the Colts sent him to Denver I was well aware of the irony. I can image the Colts GM thinking, "Cold. I'll show you cold."

Quite a diva performance. but there was something else behind it. Remember, Elway's father was a well-known college coach, Jack Elway. I heard, Jack Elway did not want his son playing for owner Robert Irsay and coach Frank Kush. I suspect that when John Elway was traded to Denver, his father told him to go ahead and play there. Once he got to Denver, he manned up and played. The rest is history.

if Cam gets lucky enough to go to a team outside of the top 20 and therefore go to a good team that can bring him along... he has the potential to be good if he gets good coaching and has low expectations for his first few years... now if he goes to a bad franchise and they ask him to save them this next season, he has a very low chance of ever growing into an nfl quarterback

Enough with all the talk about Cam Newton! History will prove that Wayne Newton will have a much more productive football career than Cam Newton will ever have...and Wayne Newton never played football.

i would suggest Santa is talking about his father.  Now I am not a Cam fan, ok. BUT you have to give it to him. He is out there making himself an open book instead of skipping the combines.   I would suggest this shows that there is something more to this guy.  The question is can he go to the next  level.

Lets not place our misplaced and slanderous statements on Cam, it is on his dad.   I would also suggest this says a lot about Auburn.  Winning trumps everything and this man was used as a piece of meat to win a championship and they did not care about him as a person.

I am shocked that anyone who steals, cheats, and acts shady turns out not to be very intelligent. It's shocking, I tell you.
