Cam Newton's struggles in the throwing session at the Combine Sunday have already been well documented. His strategy of reading a prepared statement and refusing to acknowledge the extent of the "mistakes" he made earlier in his career while at Florida has been hotly contested.

Even more of a concern, however, is that the reigning Heisman winner is also struggling answering football questions during team interviews at the Combine.

NFLDraftScout.com has learned that at least two teams gave Newton poor grades for his "football character" following interviewing him at the Combine. Newton, according to league sources, had a difficult time drawing up plays and how to react to different defensive schemes when asked to work on the white board.

There is no denying Newton's potential, but his success in spread option offense much simpler than anything he'll see in the NFL continues to be his greatest challenge. Not all teams are convinced he has the ability to make the adjustment to the complex defensive schemes he'll see at the pro level.

A day at the combine:
Coach: Alright Cam, let's do some work on the whiteboard.
Cam: Whiteboard? What happened to the blackboard? Y'all are racists.
Coach: No son. We use the white board because it's easier to write on.
Cam: Still sounds racist to me. Vince said all y'all a bunch of racists.
Coach: Cam, looking at the diagram, what defensive scheme is the other team using?
Cam: Whut's a skeem?
Coach: It means the type of formation are they using?
Cam: Uh...big guys in the front, little guys in the back?
Coach: Didn't you ever read a defense in college?
Cam: No man. I read Facebook. I'm an icon you know. An entertainer.
Coach: No. You don't understand. You must be able to recognize defenses.
Cam: I know all da fences. There's chain link fences, picket fences, and wire fences.

I remember when Elway did that - and there was nothing at the time that was considered more prima donna.  He was out of the league before my disgust for his childlike petulance died enough to see Elway for what a great QB he was.  Cam, he's beyond the pale.  Why didn't some network give him an hour to discuss himself?

I agree with everything that you said except the part about the three who came in as men. John Elway 'refused' to play for the Baltimore Colts. He stated that he would play baseball before he play for that losing organization.
He whined so much that he got his wish, but I find that less than admirable or manly to say the least.

"I was right about Vince Young and I will  be right about Cam Newton," So does that mean Cam Newton will be rookie of the year?

I dont think the Panthers lose 14 games with Cam Newton (or Gabbert, Locker, Mallett) but it is possible they could lose 15 with Jimmy Clausen.

I'm not rooting for or against Cam I'm just looking at the facts about QB's coming from the spread offense in college not making it in the NFL (JaMarcus Russel, Pat White, Jury is still out on Tebow, VY) They get drafted high sign Huge contracts and are out of the league in 5 years or less. Cam does have a checkered past and that usally throws up red flags for other players but it seems like that they are forgetting all about his past behavior just because he won the Heisman and a BCS Championship. He was a starter only one year so he has just as much expeirance as JaMarcus Russell had so If he gets drafted high he will be on the the ESPN's top 10 draft Bust in 5 years.
