Shaun Rogers signs deal with Saints

Rogers NT Shaun Rogers’ next stop is in New Orleans, as he’s signed a one-year deal with the Saints, the team announced.

For much of his career, Rogers was an impressive run stopper while combining that with a pass-rushing ability that led to a career-high seven sacks in 2007.

But as he struggled to control his weight, his productivity, particularly the past two seasons with the Browns, has decreased substantially. In effect, he’s a part-time player.

That said, he certainly has the ability to be a solid contributor to the Saints. Rogers will return to the 4-3 defense in which he excelled while in Detroit, and if he’s motivated to be in good shape, he could be an effective force once again.

I definitely like this signing. Hopefully Rogers can get into shape and help shore up our run D. I think him and Ellis will be a pretty formidable duo next year. That is if Rogers can keep the doughnuts out of his mouth.

On another note, I wish the Saints would cave and give Lance Moore a long term deal. This is the 3rd straight year that they have tendered him. He has earned his stripes and should be paid for it. Who knows how Super Bowl 44 would have turned out without that awesome catch of his.

Hopefully the Saints can work out something with our high profile free agents. It would also be nice to land a RB like Deangelo Williams.

Rogers could add a year or two to Vilmas career too. Now Vilma doesnt have to keep slamming into the line trying to control the run. He can get back on passes and work sideline to sideline more.

Before the clueless start chiming in here with "Rogers will help the struggling Saints defense", i will remind everyone they were the #10 (ish) D in the league. He will be a very welcome addition. Please stay healthy Shaun and keep your head on straight. You could have that ring if you do. Wow imagine the Saints offense getting back on track towards #1 and adding Rogers to the #10 D in the league. Phewee! Who DAT!?

Good pick up, I guess.  Saints needed some help on the DL.  Really don't know what to think though without knowing the CBA results regarding pay scales and salary caps.  Also not sure about combining Rogers' appetite with New Orleans cuisine.  Just kidding - sort of.

adding him helps. but only if the saints run a 4-3. i don't if they do but if they do that will forsure help the run stop for the saints. having Eliis and him is almost like having Pat and Kevin williams maybe even better
