Well, former Packers LB A.J. Hawkcut earlier today by Green Bay in lieu of paying him his $10 million salary for 2011 – wasn’t without a team for very long.

According to TMJ 4 out of Milwaukee, Hawk will sign a five-year deal with the Packers. Apparently, he’ll fly to Green Bay on Thursday and sign the new contract before the CBA expires.

For the Packers, it’s a victory, because they’ll get to keep their leading tackler at what I imagine will be a reduced rate (at least for 2011).

For Hawk, it’s a victory (though less so), because he knows defensive coordinator Dom Capers’ scheme so well and because he’s well-respected inside the locker room. And because, in times like these, it's good to have a job.

FYI the ONLY guaranteed part of a CONTRACT in the NFL is the signing bonus.  Roster bonuses, salaries for upcoming years on the contract and incentives are null and void if so chosen by management.  It's not really all that fair but it's called welcome to the NFL.  Why do you think the NFLPA wants to have what MLB has?  No hatin just educatin bro.

It's nice to have A.J. back!  I know some will say he's not a true superstar for the position he got drafted at or he's the 3rd best Lb on the team, but hey I'll take consistency over prima donna, and that is what Hawk has been, CONSISTENT.  I know it was a bit high to pay a consistent Lb 10 million dollars and the team did what it did over business interests, but I'm also glad they were able to resign him being the high draft pick that he was to another 5 years.  I know people talk about loyalty left and right, but the NFL has become more about business as much as anything else. I think it's nice to know that Hawk could retire as a Packer, which has become rare nowadays where one guy stays with the same team his whole career, something that should have been done with Favre but that is another matter.  Congrats A.J. on your new deal and hopefully all the greed sobs can get a deal done so there is some more football this year. Go Pack!

there was an article on CBS sports about the tweeting.  I headlines said something like Rodgers and Barnett yadda yadda whatever.  I the  article is said "who the hell is barnett"  LMAO.  barnett sucks,  I'm glad Bishop got his chance,  he'll be a very solid player for GB.

Barnett's days in GB are numbered.  Didn't help with his Tweeting about the team picture and the distractions he caused leading up to the Super Bowl.

Good riddance Barnett.  Hawk is a stand up guy for trusting the Packers organization and making this business move.  Not too many guys would've done this.

don't think that is good news for the often injured barnett, his best days are behind him.  i think bishop proved his worth and pack gave him his new deal.  chillar is valuable if he can stay healthy, anyway don't think barnett is going to play with the pack again.

I can't be the only one that thinks its completely retarded that a team can just end a guy's 'contract' without paying him the full amount, then turn around and sign him to a new one a few days later.  Why even call it a contract at this point?

Hawk is a great locker room guy . Not the greatest in pass coverage, but will tackle with the best of them. Glad to see the Pack signed him again. Had his best year last year.
