Obama won't intervene in NFL lockout

At this point, fans of the NFL are probably willing to accept help from anywhere to prevent a lockout. That includes the government, who seems to slow things down and/or mess things up every time it gets it's tape-covered hands in the sports world.

Unfortunately, even as midnight approaches and our concussion-filled carriage gets ready to morph into a rotten pumpkin, we're not going to see the White House swoop in and save the NFL. That's according to the President himself, who addressed the topic Thursday.

"You have owners worth close to a billion, players making millions," President Obama said. "The parties should be able to work it out. I'm a big football fan. For an industry making $9 billion I'd hope they can figure out how to divide it up in a sensible way.

"I hope they can come to an agreement without me having to intervene."

The reaction to this should actually be pretty hysterical, although it's a lose/lose proposition for the Big Guy. If he steps in and makes the NFL continue, he's an "anti-capitalism socialist who wants the government to own the NFL." And if he does nothing, he "probably hates America and fun."

But the Prez is right to wash his hands of this mess. It'd be nice to see someone with enough authority guarantee that we'll get football next year, but in the big picture of things that are happening in this world, the business of the NFL is still pretty small stuff.

Besides, he's got his hands full trying to fix the fact that college football is too corrupt stupid to employ a playoff.

Wow.  What a surprise. The President is mentioned in a non-story as having answered a question, and the stupid flows from there. "Barry." "NoBama." Pure genius.

As for the guy who pointed out how much President Bush was hated, you have a point, though I suspect it's not the one you intended to make. People who hated Bush should hated Obama, too. Not because of his color or some completely farcical BS like his citizenship or religion or ethnicity, but because - apart from a neutered, half-assed health care initiative - his policies are almost exactly the same as Bush's.

Obama won't intervene in NFL lockout

It's good that Obama is washing his hands of this situation.  The right to strike is part of the contract negotiation process and government has no justification to interfere in that process... that is unless of course you're a teacher from Wisconsin.  Maybe if the NFL cut out all the money it spent on various charities and community building they could free up some money that way.

yeah, the community organizer is going to tell successful men in charge of a 9 bil industry how to do things--he doesnt want to get involved because he would not have teh slightest clue as to what to do except put on his sneakers and join the players on the picket line---if any of you all know his history it is filled with voting "present"--some things never change just look around outside of the world of sports.

You're all missing the big picture. It isn't about NoBama being involved...or even about the fact that these men (cough) all together fuel a nine billion dollar industry...it's the simple fact that regardless of who is involved, the longer they can make this bullsh*t NEWS stay on the air, the more $$$$ they can keep racking up. It is on sportscenter, twitter, facebook, the nightly news, the front page of the paper, in the magazines. The NFL has been an economic HOAX the past decade. Sure the athletes are more athletic and there are more big plays; but what does that equate to? More merchandising, bigger contracts, more money, and ultimately a sport/industry run by the buck and no longer the glory of the sport. We created football, no other country plays football(maybe the Canadians play it some- but are terrible). The NFL is simply a cash cow. Why wouldnt they want more drama, more press? Wake up people...it isnt about the game anymore. Its about the diva players, the big shot coaches, billionaire owners, and the big dollar signs. It is all anyone seems to care about anymore.

You're confused because you can't read. The President isn't involved. He just answered a question.

I'm really confused here. Why is the President evan getting involved with this at all? I thought the Presidents job is to run the country not the NFL. The President needs to fix the economy in the country not the cry baby owners and players of the NFL. Strike who cares. Not me.

You are so wrong Wronskian. Your "brothers" that yearned for "racial" equaity, got that on the first day of Nov. 2008, when Obama was elected. Now it`s you, and "brothers' like you that never want racism to die, you`re always playing the "race card". If you are so pissed off at America... board a plane, and go back to your beloved Motherland.
