P. Burress (US Presswire)
Mark it down: June 6, the day Plaxico Burress will be a free man again. The New York State Department of Correctional Services announced that the former Giants wide receiver has earned time off on the basis of good behavior. Burress’ three months early release has long been expected. He’ll wind up skipping 1/7 of his original two-year prison sentence.

After unknowingly shooting himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub in 2008, Burress pleaded guilty in 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

The “who will sign Burress?” discussion already commenced several weeks ago. The early release is great fortune for Burress because it will allow him a few extra weeks of training time before teams likely will start taking close looks at him when training camps open up in late July/early August. Roger Goodell has said Burress can sign with any team once he’s a free man.

Who cares about Plaxico?  There's lots of talented rookies that he won't be able to outperform.  He's a metaphor for the growing pile of dumbasses that snort, fight, dope, and shoot themselves out of a brilliant opportunity to be a professional athlete.
He's also a posterboy for the hypocrisy of american gun culture:  Having to have a gun to protect oneself from someone who has a gun. What a joke! He shot himself!
The NRA is a proxy special interest group for gun manufacturers.  Assault weapons and handguns are for hunting humans.  Nobody needs anything but a RIFLE for what's actually MORAL to hunt.

Though he shoudn't have been carrying a gun, I feel his penalty was too extreme - in relation to the crimes and penalties that others committ.  Though Plaxico was been troublesome over the years, he never showed a thug or hard criminal mentality. I am confused about why he was dealt with so harshly.  He's come across the airwaves to me as an irresponsible buffoon of sorts - a guy TRYING to be a player but shooting himself in the leg instead. It's almost funny - laughable, except he went to prison for it.
I believe any team that hires him will find a man committed to be the best he can be. Burress knows it's serious business now. He has a chance to redeem himself and make some money over the next few years.
I hope he does succeed - I hope he has matured.

I personally think every person above the age of 21 should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon.

Silly comment and your obviously a young kid...if you can't see the dangers in having a 21 year old carrying a gun then you're an idiot. Let's give kids who just became of the legal age to drink a gun as well.

Why should t he criminals be the only one carrying a concealed weapon?

Are you implying that all criminal do?

You pass a law banning all weapons is a great idea if you could get everyone to obey the law. Criminals are not gonna walk up to a turn in point and gladly hand over their weapons.

I am all for the second amendment and the right to bear arms..I am a member of the NRA but criminals will always be criminals.

Also I don’t want to be in a situation where a gun fight break out and the criminals are the only ones with guns, they would have an unfair advantage.

How old are you...where do you hang out? at the O.K. Corral? This rearly happens unless you're in a bad part of the city in a shady club. I lived in Manhatten most of my life and I have been going out to clubs and bars in the city just about every weekend until my mid 20's and I have never seen a gun fight and I doubt you have also.

All I want is a fighting chance to defend myself, wife and family, as oppose to cowering behind a table at a club of some other unfamiliar place or even in my own home during a home invasion.

First, you will never be subjected to this unles you bring your wife and kids to a shady club in the bad part of town..if you're doing that then your moron...second, if your worried about a home invasion then you or anyone over 21 can apply for a target permit and have the gun in your home...you're imaturity shines with ths comment.

We all know how long it take for the police to arrive, especially if it goes out “Gun fire at the scene.”

How old are you? LMAO...wait let's get a pertition to see if we can get the police to react quicker when there is "Gun fire at the scene.”

That's actually the first team I thought of signing him.  Who better to sign a guy that still has jailhouse tattoos that aren't fully healed.  The good part is maybe he will be smart enough this time to pay someone else to carry the gun.  I never really understood that.  You have millions of dollars but you decide to walk around with a felony?  No thanks; if I am going that route someone else is carrying that around. haha

For those of you that reside in New York that think the law is a bad law or not a just law, should get partitions, or whatever the norm is to change the law. Stop talking and complaining about the law do something. Al Sharpton live in New York, call him, Oops he is oppose to guns and would want a law past to eliminate all guns from all Americans.

Currently the law is what it is. Carrying a gun in New York without a New York permit is illegal. The punishment if caught is 2 years.

I am sure there are players on the N.Y. Giants that are from and around New York city that would have informed Burris of this law. It is not uncommon to have at least one person that would know and understand this law and the consequences.

I don’t know if he is an idiot or stupid, I do know that he was caught with a gun on his person and also that he accidentally shot himself in the leg or thigh.

Either way he in fact had the gun, a crime in New York City. Therefore his sentence for carrying the gun.

I hope he has a long and successful life both personally and in the NFL. One thing I don’t want is for him to be on the professional football team I root for.

I personally think every person above the age of 21 should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon. Why should t he criminals be the only one carrying a concealed weapon?

BEARS need to pick him up cheap. Cutler does best with big tall receivers who can go up and get his inaccurate passes.

Plax is a sick WR with the stats and the ring to prove it, so whoever gets him will be lucky.  To settle the debate on whether he's smarter than a doorstop, you only need to read a page out of his autobiography, "Giant."  Even with some other guy actually writing the book for him, he can barely put a sentence together in coherent English.  He also scored a 9 out of 50 on the Wonderlic Test.  All too often, drinking + stupid = jail.

If true, that would be a great pick up for the Patriots and good team for Plax to go to...hopefully he hasn't lost any of his speed!
