Mark it down: June 6, the day Plaxico Burress will be a free man again. The New York State Department of Correctional Services announced that the former Giants wide receiver has earned time off on the basis of good behavior. Burress’ three months early release has long been expected. He’ll wind up skipping 1/7 of his original two-year prison sentence.
After unknowingly shooting himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub in 2008, Burress pleaded guilty in 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
The “who will sign Burress?” discussion already commenced several weeks ago. The early release is great fortune for Burress because it will allow him a few extra weeks of training time before teams likely will start taking close looks at him when training camps open up in late July/early August. Roger Goodell has said Burress can sign with any team once he’s a free man.
