Chad will keep the last name Ochocinco

Every few weeks, Chad Ochocinco changes his mind about his name. Intentional or not, the vacillation is a brilliant marketing ploy because it forces hacks like us to write a new post about him even when he really isn’t generating actual news.

Add this post to that growing list of posts. Ochocinco, recently appearing on WCNN in Atlanta with Buck and Kinkade, confirmed that he will NOT be changing his name back to Chad Johnson. He’s keeping the mangled Spanish last name.

“Why would I mess up the brand,” Ochocinco said. “I can’t mess up the brand. I have so much going on. … I [said] that to piss off the people at ESPN.”

Maintaining the brand is probably a smart move by Ochocinco, though it’s not like that brand is the most sterling brand out there. Ochocinco’s production has dropped each of the past three seasons since he changed his name. (Coincidence? Probably. But still…)

Finally, I can sleep at night.

P.S.  Chad, the "brand" only works if you actually play.
