Looks like Gradkowski won't be in Oakland in '11

Gradkowski Posted by Josh Katzowitz

Jason Campbell, barring any last minute Draft day declarations (and this IS the Raiders we’re writing about), should be the starting QB next season in Oakland. Owner Al Davis has made it clear he likes Campbell – and perhaps, in part, Campbell is an indirect reason that Tom Cable, who wasn’t as big a fan as his boss, is no longer coaching the squad – and new coach Hue Jackson is on board, as well.

The rest of the QB roster looks like this: Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, Kyle Boller and J.T. O’Sullivan. And considering, as the Contra Costa Times reports, Gradkowski – the best player of any of the backups – wasn’t offered a tender, it seems like his days in Oakland might be finished.

Last year, Gradkowski was tendered as a second-round player (meaning he was paid $1.8 million) and was considered insurance for JaMarcus Russell. Then, when Russell spectacularly flamed out, the Raiders acquired Campbell from Washington and named him the starter. But it didn’t take Gradkowski long to get playing time.

He replaced Campbell in the second half of the second game of the season, and for the rest of the year, the two went back and forth, as they battled injuries and, frankly, crappy QB play.

Once a new CBA is reached, Gradkowski could be offered a contract, but Jerry McDonald writes that it’s unlikely. A more likely scenario is that Frye will take over the backup spot and the team might try to sign a developmental quarterback who theoretically could be the team’s future.

Either way, Gradkowski has had success in this league. He deserves a chance to be what he ultimately believes he is: a starting quarterback.

JKennedy,
Now wonder your an Amateur poster.  Lets get some facts straightened out.  The actual Offensive rank of the Raiders this year was the 10th overall offense.  Now that in and of itself is not far from where you said they were.  However, lets look at other offensive stats for the good old oaktown Raida's.  They were 10th over all and 2nd in Rushing.  So obviously the line is ok at rush blocking.  Now lets look at passing.  They were 23rd in passing offense.  Now where does that blame lay.  On crappy recievers perhaps.  Or perhaps the fact that the O-line couldn't pass protect if their lives depended on it.  Or, or perhaps Campbell sucks.  Gradkowski, not great.  But better than Campbell.

Wow you guys just don't have a clue...one guy is saying the line will fall apart without Gallery and another is talking about the Raider offense like it was inept this year.  Newsflash the Raiders had the 6th ranked offense this year, Galley was largely mediocre and Campbell is not a bad QB.

If Campbell played for a stable franchise maybe he would be successful. The Redskins and the Raiders are two shameful franchises. Every time either one of these franchises take a step forward they take steps back. Raiders go 8-8 what happens Cable is fired. NEWSFREAKINFLASH. The Raiders weren't this good in a long time. They swept the division. Al Davis needs to use that old swollen wringly old brain of his and provide some stability to a franchise that hasn't been above .500 in a while. They had good pieces. Now Gallery is gone the offense line could potentially breakdown and revert to its old useless ways. Not to mention they are losing their best corner, they have no elite pass rusher, and a brand new freshman head coach. What is Al Davis thinking. Oh yea, hes not.

P.S Gradkowski was not and will not be the answer to any franchises problem, except for "What am I gonna go when my real quarterback gets hurt?"

Another dumb move by Oakland and Al Davis. Dumb in choosing Jason Campbell to start ( just HOW MANY CHANCES does Campbell have coming? Gradkowski did have some success, and while I don't see starting QB in his future, he is a good backup.
Gradkowski should feel lucky to be getting out of the zoo they call the Raiders.

Poor analysis by this writer.  Gradkowski actally played fairly well over the last few seasons, and any issues he's had can be directly tied to two factors: 1) a horrible WR corp.  These guys are inexperienced, limited talent and for every great play they make they botch 4 others; 2) an even more horrible offensive line. I'm not talking run blocking here, but straight up passer protection. ANY QB behind these guys would have "injury issues".  Let's start with the center who UNFAILINGLY gives away the snap timing when he looks left, right, then bobs his head before EVERY SINGLE SNAP!! This donkey is a "pro", REALLY?!? I actually think Gradkowski is the better option (over Campbell), but if the Raiders dont get back to blocking like they did back when Gannon was under center, no QB will find much success in Oaktown.

Jason Katsowitz huh, should be Katsowitless.  Crappy QB play my ass.  Montana himself, in his hayday, would look like a chump playing on this team.  Other than his tight end, who is any of the Raider QB's supposed to throw to, to not make them look crappy.  Darrius "run faster than lighting but drops more balls than a Bangkok prostitute" Heyward-Bey.  Gradkowski got it done.  True he is somewhat fragile and does spend time on the bench due to injury but the guy has talent.  Campbell, now this guy is a joke.  Course so is Al Davis so I guess that's why he likes him so much.

He could probably win a starting gig for Cardinals without even trying too hard.
