A. Talib is a person of interest in a Dallas-area shooting (US Presswire). Posted by Josh Katzowitz

Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib is a person of interest in a March 21 Dallas-area domestic altercation in which five gunshots were allegedly fired. He hasn't been arrested and charged yet, but that could happen sometime later this week if police feel Talib was involved.

Apparently, as reported by the Dallas Observer , the dispute involved Talib’s sister, his mother and his sister’s boyfriend, and two guns were involved. The police report states that Talib attempted to pistol-whip the boyfriend, who had been in an argument with Talib’s sister, and afterward, Talib fired a few shots from his mother's gun at the boyfriend as he fled the scene on foot.

When Talib is in the right state of mind, he’s one of the best defensive backs in the NFC South. He’s been in the league three seasons, and each year, he’s upped his interception total from the season before.

The problem is: he, at times, is not in the right state of mind.

He missed the season opener in 2010 because he violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy by throwing a drunken punch at a cab driver and resisting arrest, and then, when he was suspended, he violated the league’s rules again by sitting inside a stadium suite and watching the game.

He also threw a punch at teammate Corey Boyd at the 2008 Rookie Symposium, hit a teammate in the face with his helmet during mini-camp in 2009, and Tampa Tribune columnist Martin Fennelly wrote this after Talib exchanged profanities with an official during last season: Plenty of people inside One Buc Place keep their fingers perpetually crossed. They hope Talib doesn't do something stupid and endanger his livelihood or his team's chances. The guy is crazy talented, but sometimes he's just crazy…. Talib remains a wild card, the wildest, in fact.

Here's betting that an incident like this won't change that mindset.

NFL players get into the most trouble during the off season when football is not occupying most of their time. The longer the labor problems continue the more players we'll see getting into situations like this one. It works in favor of the owners because before long players will be complaining about hot being able to cover their legal fees along with paying their baby momma's child support.

Talib a person of interest in shooting

According to the report and the sources, at 7:30 p.m. on March 21 Aqib Muttaqi Talib went to his sister's home in the 900 block of Green Pond Drive in Garland (south of Bush Turnpike not far from Spring Creek Elementary and Hawaiian Falls Water Park). Saran, who was arguing with Billings, also called her mother for help. Police were directed to Saran's home via a 911 call by neighbors, who reported a domestic dispute and three shots fired at a black male by a black female. According to the report, police arrived to find Billings standing in front of a nearby residence. While interviewing him, officers discovered Billings was a suspect in two pending, related, family-violence offenses involving Saran and arrested him.

When initially questioned, both Saran and Okolo Talib said they knew nothing of an earlier incident at the house. Billings, however, led police to a gun he said belonged to Aqib that Billings had thrown in a neighbor's trash can after escaping his struggle with the player. After finding the weapon and calling forensic investigators to retrieve numerous spent shell casings in the street, officers took a statement from Billings.

According to the report, Billings said Aqib produced a handgun and "attempted to strike him in the face." During the ensuing skirmish Talib dropped the gun and Billings picked it up and began runnning, prompting Okolo to produce a gun and fire three shots toward him. Billings told police that Talib then took Okolo's gun, said "I'll shoot him" and fired at least two shots before Billings safely ducked into nearby woods. Neighborhood witnesses corroborated Billings' story.

GPD detectives are still investigating the case, but one of the sources said Billings' statement, physical evidence and the eyewitness confirmations would likely be enough to present a case to a Dallas County grand jury. Both Okolo and Aqib have retained lawyers and are, according to one source, not cooperating with investigators.

The above is from the Dallas Observer website.  "Neighborhood witnesses corroborated Billings' story - that Aqib Talib attempted to shoot him.  Not fired shots into the air to scare him, but took the gun from his sister, who was already firing, and tried to shoot him.  I love how they claimed to know "nothing of an earlier incident in the house" - the shooting they were involved in.  Good, honest people we're talking about here.
