Good news for those of you that love Chad Ochocinco: the often volatile wide receiver won't be out of a job during the lockout, as he's landed a reserve spot with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.

As everyone knows by now, Ocho got a tryout with the soccer club (and it was a VERY SERIOUS tryout not intended for publicity, which is precisely why they live streamed the event), despite not having played soccer in quite some time.

And he did well enough that he got to play in a reserve game with the team, and now he's earned a backup spot on the squad. Well, kind of anyway -- the team gave Ocho an "honorary" spot with the team and a chance to train with the reserves.

"It's awesome," Ochocinco said Tuesday morning, via the Kansas City Star. "Basically I can stay here and train as I please, which is really cool. Words can't describe how thankful I am to be able to be here."

And why wouldn't he be ecstatic? He's finally got a coach -- Sporting KC's Peter Vermes -- that doesn't publicly bash him like Marvin Lewis!

"He's been a pleasure to have here," Vermes said. "He's progressed in the days he's trained with us."

It warrants mentioning that as good as Ocho might be at soccer, and as athletic as he is, there's zero chance that publicity and ticket sales don't at least factor into this decision.

Barring Chad turning into the next Pele, he'll likely get some moderate playing time and help the team sell tons of tickets both at home and on the road. After all, America does love a spectacle.

And he'll probably have a clause in his contract -- see the quote, "as I please" -- where he can leave Sporting KC as soon as the lockout's lifted and it's time top play football again.

These are not made up numbers, they are official reported numbers.  I bring real numbers to the argument and you say i attended some games and took a picture so I'm right.  What an absolutely worthless argument.  You should probably inform the owners of Sporting KC that they have it all wrong and they just wasted 200 million on a state of the art soccer stadium based on false numbers because you went to some games and you know better.

You admit that the numbers you had are inflated and I tell you that I've actually attended and my arguement is worthless? Are you stupid or something? I don't care what they reported I was there and know what actually happened. No I didn't do a hand count of the people in those stadium but I can use the stadium capacity and look at how full it was and make a judgement call as to whether something sounds right. I've got several pictures and even video from my phone. There wasn't 50,000 people there. Most of the people there were manchester fans. I'm glad that they built a new stadium. I hope it causes people in KC to start paying attention to soccer more. Also if you had used your head a little you might have done a bit more research and realized that tax revenues from the legends area were used to help fund the project. It would be in their best interest to have numbers that indicate the need for a stadium that holds 18,000 people with the ability to expand to 25,000. It wouldn't be the first time that a sports team was overly ambitious thinking that building something state of the art would attract more attention to something and increase interest and business. This project was originally intended to be on the MO side but failed to aquire funding. I do think that I have more ground to stand on when it comes to making an arguement in compared to pulling numbers of a website. Not only have I been to many games over the years, but my friend is a season ticket holder. From our experience of actually being there I can assure you those numbers are inflated to some degree.

The former KC Wizards averaged approx. 10,300 fans per game going back to 2008 at Commerce Ballpark that allows for about 10,400 in ticket sales.  I know some of those tickets aren't actually sold as they are give aways and that not every fan shows up for every game, but that happens at almost every stadium in every sport.  Not bad at all during a recession.  As for the Manchester United game, the ticket sales were nearly 53,000 which is the record for attendance at a soccer game in KC so I'm not exactly sure how that counts as a failure or pathetic.  It's off the subject of Ocho but your post lacks validity.

Um, I never would have guess it because I was at the game and there weren't 50,000 people there. I've got pictures on my phone to show that. The mid field area was spotted with mostly everything else empty. The red to blue jersey ratio was 10 - 1. 10,000 fans per game at community america ha ha, ok whatever.

Alright steelsac,  when I said he was humble I meant through this entire soccer process he has been very humble, he realizes he isn't a great soccer player but still tries his best 100% of the time.  I consider myself a Steelers fan because growing up I thought Slash was a disgusting athelte and changed the QB position.  I also like the Steelers because Dick Lebeau's defensive scheme is relentless.  I don't like Cam Newton at all, thank you for making assumptions.  I don't even like Ben Roethlisberger because he raped a girl and got away with it with a slap on the wrist, I rather have Dennis Dixon starting.  So keep wearing your Roethlisberger jersey and show how great of a Steelers fan you are.  Start surrouding yourself with better people and maybe you won't be such a prick.
