PETA wants Vick out of Madden cover tourney

Vick Posted by Josh Katzowitz

With the upcoming release of the next version of EA Sports’ “Madden,” there’s plenty of controversy already brewing.

First, you’ve got the 32-player bracket in which fans can vote for the cover boy that has already led to “upsets” of Bills WR Steve Johnson (by Patriots RB Danny Woodhead) and of Broncos QB Tim Tebow (by a surprising Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles, who dominated Tebow 64 percent-36 percent) in the first-round matchups.

Now, you’ve got the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) who want Eagles QB Michael Vick evicted from the tournament (you know, the whole dogfighting thing).

That, however, won’t stop EA Sports president Peter Moore from putting Vick on the cover if that is the result of the fan vote.

"We believe that Michael Vick, as the runner-up in MVP for the league and the comeback player of the year, deserved his slot," Moore told CNBC.com. “I can tell you we've already received the letters from our good friends at PETA urging us to take him out of the bracket. I'm not here to comment on what he did. I personally believe, and this is personal commentary right now, that Michael served his time. He's had a tremendous season."

Vick also believes he deserves the honor, as he’s taken to his Twitter page to encourage fans to vote for him.

Moore also declared his company was wrong for originally allowing players who suffered concussions on the virtual field to return to the game. That’s why, in Madden ’12, that won’t be an option (my heart breaks for those who have Colts WR Austin Collie on their team).

According to the AP, Moore said “we have an obligation in our industry" to recognize that brain injuries are one of the leading issues of the day.

PETA needs to get off his ass. He did his time, what else do they want from him? Hang in in town square? If this were Brett Favre, the apology would have already been accepted. Move on PETA, why don't you show up at a Ted Nugent concert and harrass his hunting ways?!

DIE Vick ...

There's no punishment appropriate enough for what you did.

Only a bullet to the head. I truly hope somebody does it.

Ridiculous. Not a Vick fan, but he served the sentence for his crime. Looks like he'll never see the end from PETA, who in the end, is just another terrorist organization, with all their fire bombings of various testing labs and any other places that they feel mistreats animals. But, since it's in the name of animals, it's not pursued more. I'd like to see foundations dedicated to curing diseases and life threatening illnesses start picketing Carrie Underwood concerts, and any other spokespeople of PETA for that matter. Many of us have, or have family members and friends who've, received life saving treatments or procedures that were animal tested.

Who do they want, Adrian "the millionaire slave" Peterson instead?  How about Brady, who knocked up a chick and then left her to marry a supermodel?  With the past off season, Madden should just put the mug shots of all the players who were arrested instead....oooh, I vote for Johnny Jolly because that guy knows how to have a good time.  If its about off the field stuff, just keep putting Drew Brees (all the work he does in NO) on the cover and call it good.

I can't stand Vick as a person, but he is a hell of a football player.  And the last time I checked, EA picks Madden covers based on talent, not off the field stuff.  I am a pet owner and I love my dogs, but PETA needs to let this go.  The guy is scum, but he served his time and should be allowed to continue his life (well all that a felon can do).
If anything, PETA should be more pissed about the changes last year that I thought made the game less enjoyable.

The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals is the worse (not worst) organization?  Interesting.
