A little non-legal football news for you: Robert Meachem is recovering from ankle surgery. The Saints wide receiver went under the knife shortly after the 2010 season wrapped up.

Meachem told Clifton Brown of Sporting News that he will be ready to resume full action by late July. Meachem, a first-round pick in 2007, had a breakout campaign in 2009, catching 45 balls for 722 yards and nine touchdowns. His big play prowess dipped a bit in ’10, though, as he managed 638 yards on 44 catches and only five touchdowns. On film, he did not appear to be quite as dynamic a downfield weapon as usual.

Meachem was asked how much the ankle bothered him last year. “Pretty much every game,” he said. But that’s the deal we go through. After the third week, I don’t think anybody in the NFL is healthy.”
