Note: Mallett's agents and the Panthers organization have both issued statements claiming the quarterback was genuinely sick on the morning of April 9. You can read those statements here.

----------

If the sources talking to Brad Briggs of the National Football Post are correct, Ryan Mallett’s draft stock could soon take a serious hit. Briggs says the Arkansas quarterback skipped a pre-draft meeting with the Panthers earR. Mallett (US Presswire)lier this month after a night out on the town in Charlotte.

Mallett reportedly arrived in town April 8 and met team officials for a dinner that night. There were supposed to be meetings the next day at Bank of America Stadium but they were cancelled after Mallett called the team saying he was sick. The problem? Sources say Mallett was seen out on the town following the late dinner.

Earlier this week there were reports that Mallett had admitted to teams that he has used drugs in the past. Questions about rumored failed drug tests and character concerns have dogged the talented pocket passer throughout the 2011 draft process.

UPDATE 12:40 p.m. EST:
Briggs isn't the only one reporting this. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer says league sources tell him Mallett skipped a meeting with GM Marty Hurney.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m. EST:
Mallett’s agent, J.R. Carroll has responded. “I’ll tell you this — Ryan was in his hotel room by about 10 o’clock,” Carroll told ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via Pro Football Talk.

“I’m pretty sure Ryan was really, really sick. He told me he was sick the night before. And I know Ryan wasn’t out late night. I know that for sure. He’s not an idiot.”

Carroll says Mallett had dinner with Julio Jones the night of April 8 but left early because he did not feel well. He also says Mallett met with Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski the next morning but cancelled the rest of the day’s meetings due to sickness.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

The 2 reasons he had the stats he did was they have NO running game

Really? So, 1322 yards by one back (Knile Davis) isn't a running game? Knile averages 6.5 yards per carry. We also had another 700 yards between 3 other backs (1 of whom went down during the 2nd game of the season). So we're clear, the Hogs had over 2000 rushing yards on the year but you're right: we have no running game. hahaha!!

How bout you check these stats out, pal?

and for the record, Knile Davis wasn't our go to running back until half way through the season; he didn't hit 100 yards per game until the 7th game of the season. After Knile started tearing it up, Ryan Mallett still averaged about 300 yards per game passing.

I guess we'll just have to disagree on what we think of Mallett as you are an Arkansas fan and I am an LSU fan and see how think shake out.

well, I'm a Gator fan, and I'm of the firm conviction Mallett is the best QB in the draft and an immediate starter.

Its funny how you tell someone to brush up on facts before challenging, yet you have no idea what your talking about.  You say we were down 14-21 points when Mallett went out against Auburn...wrong.  And the above statement tells me you only pay attention to your beloved tigers unless having a running back (Kniles Davis) who goes for over 1,300 yards, and 13 tds on the season is having no running game.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

They beat LSU because of a fluke play on the last play of the half when the FS laid out the CB and Arkansas WR took it 80 yds.
They beat LSU because they were the better team.  Do you remember how the game ended?  We could have punched the ball in the endzone very easily from the one yard line to make it a two score win, but Petrino decided to show class, and kneel it.  What you call a  fluke I call taking advantage of a defense that tried to make a play, but ended up knocking each other out of the play.  Too bad.

Last time I checked fluke plays count, chicks dig scares and the final score is all that matters.

Mike Brown's found his new quarterback, this guy's going to look great in Bengal stripes! Pick number 35 overall Cincinnati Bengals select Ryan Mallett QB from Arkansas. A guy with a lot of character concerns to lead a locker room full of others.

I can agree with that. See who says that just because you are rivals on the field you can't agree.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

Oh you’re an LSU fan ok. Well Mr.Fanboy 1500 there are 2 half’s to every game, you telling me that one play cost them the game. LOL!!! I could go back and dissect plenty of plays that cost teams games if that’s how things are done. Also Arkansas won by 8 that game. I’m sure your going to say yea but if we where only down by one we could have went for the 2pt conversion. LOL!!! Give me a break. What have you backed up?

Look the real reason that Mallet is getting it so hard is because he is a white kid who talks with an urban accent and frankly that’s almost worst than being black now days. Right or wrong about 80% of kids that go off to college experiment at some point or another but to think this kid was an addict and still managed to compete at the level he did says something great about his mental makeup.
