Note: Mallett's agents and the Panthers organization have both issued statements claiming the quarterback was genuinely sick on the morning of April 9. You can read those statements here.

----------

If the sources talking to Brad Briggs of the National Football Post are correct, Ryan Mallett’s draft stock could soon take a serious hit. Briggs says the Arkansas quarterback skipped a pre-draft meeting with the Panthers earR. Mallett (US Presswire)lier this month after a night out on the town in Charlotte.

Mallett reportedly arrived in town April 8 and met team officials for a dinner that night. There were supposed to be meetings the next day at Bank of America Stadium but they were cancelled after Mallett called the team saying he was sick. The problem? Sources say Mallett was seen out on the town following the late dinner.

Earlier this week there were reports that Mallett had admitted to teams that he has used drugs in the past. Questions about rumored failed drug tests and character concerns have dogged the talented pocket passer throughout the 2011 draft process.

UPDATE 12:40 p.m. EST:
Briggs isn't the only one reporting this. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer says league sources tell him Mallett skipped a meeting with GM Marty Hurney.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m. EST:
Mallett’s agent, J.R. Carroll has responded. “I’ll tell you this — Ryan was in his hotel room by about 10 o’clock,” Carroll told ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via Pro Football Talk.

“I’m pretty sure Ryan was really, really sick. He told me he was sick the night before. And I know Ryan wasn’t out late night. I know that for sure. He’s not an idiot.”

Carroll says Mallett had dinner with Julio Jones the night of April 8 but left early because he did not feel well. He also says Mallett met with Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski the next morning but cancelled the rest of the day’s meetings due to sickness.

They beat LSU because of a fluke play on the last play of the half when the FS laid out the CB and Arkansas WR took it 80 yds. Heres the scoring to the auburn game guess u didn't catch this 1.Like I said don't come on here and try to talk trash unless you can back it up

What I think;Too much "media" with too little to report in the 24/7 news cycles, so they MANUFACTURE HEADLINES like this one.Not just in SPORTS, but in EVERYTHING.  This "story"  wasn't investigated properly before throwing it out there for public consumption, and that is JUST PLAIN WRONG.There are NO ETHICS IN JOURNALISM like there once was. NONE."Get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry".Don Henley

Again 1500 you don’t know jack shiggady. Arkansas was leading 14-10 when Mallet was knocked out of the game. Auburn scored on the following drive to go up 17-10. As for why or how they beat LSU is simple Arkansas had the better game plan and beat them from the gate. I must say you got me Mallet did throw some costly int in the Bama game but I’m sure Manning has never done that. Also check the stats Arkansas had the second leading rusher in the SEC second to only Newton. So again keep reading these threads for your info and I will keep watching games.  Oh as far as the third loss I was talking during the season not bowl game but I will let you have that one also, 3 losses to top 5 programs and still managed over 3 hundred yards passing. Dude check your facts

I think people should be a little careful of judging the kid without ALL the FACTS.  Judging someone on rumor & innuendo is dangerous and unfair.  Yes, he's had issues; yes, he's brought some of this on himself with his past behavior.  Judging a book by it's cover has cost many a team tens of millions of dollars.   Leaf & Russell are prime examples cited AD-NAUSEUM.  The other side of the coin;  Missing OUT on a PRIME TALENT because you listened to rumor & innuendo instead of doing your own due-dilligence.  Don't be so lazy; READ THE BOOK!!!

uh, gully.   what about ohio st beating them too.    if you say the big ten was overated,  then at least they won one game against the sec.     mallet will be a decent quarterback.   nothing great but decent,  which is a lot like the nfl.     about 6 great qb's and 26 average or below.

Newspapers are getting desperate for readers

First it's these so called "confessions" that he used drugs, when there isn't a single instance where Mallet said anything of the like. It's his choice to not answer those questions, and it's immature and irresponsible to automatically assume that means he is a drug user. Now here comes the media again, painting the picture that he was getting wasted and skipping a meeting, and again there's evidence to the contrary. Can these low life column writers and no-nothing bloggers please stop trying to conjure up Ryan Mallet as an idiot? With the state the
NFL is already in you would think the press would be try to be positive, but these morons think bad press sells. I can't wait until the New York Post and every other bad mouthing sports tabloid goes bankrupt.
