Note: Mallett's agents and the Panthers organization have both issued statements claiming the quarterback was genuinely sick on the morning of April 9. You can read those statements here.

If the sources talking to Brad Briggs of the National Football Post are correct, Ryan Mallett’s draft stock could soon take a serious hit. Briggs says the Arkansas quarterback skipped a pre-draft meeting with the Panthers earR. Mallett (US Presswire)lier this month after a night out on the town in Charlotte.

Mallett reportedly arrived in town April 8 and met team officials for a dinner that night. There were supposed to be meetings the next day at Bank of America Stadium but they were cancelled after Mallett called the team saying he was sick. The problem? Sources say Mallett was seen out on the town following the late dinner.

Earlier this week there were reports that Mallett had admitted to teams that he has used drugs in the past. Questions about rumored failed drug tests and character concerns have dogged the talented pocket passer throughout the 2011 draft process.

UPDATE 12:40 p.m. EST:
Briggs isn't the only one reporting this. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer says league sources tell him Mallett skipped a meeting with GM Marty Hurney.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m. EST:
Mallett’s agent, J.R. Carroll has responded. “I’ll tell you this — Ryan was in his hotel room by about 10 o’clock,” Carroll told ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via Pro Football Talk.

“I’m pretty sure Ryan was really, really sick. He told me he was sick the night before. And I know Ryan wasn’t out late night. I know that for sure. He’s not an idiot.”

Carroll says Mallett had dinner with Julio Jones the night of April 8 but left early because he did not feel well. He also says Mallett met with Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski the next morning but cancelled the rest of the day’s meetings due to sickness.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

No one is ever going to accuse this kid of being an upstanding citizen, but he's got the best pure arm in the draft, hands down. Dude can whip it anywhere on the field he chooses. He could be the next Jeff George, sure, but he sure as hell will be drafted high. Teams overlook a lot when it comes to "raw talent".

Question: who "saw him out on the town"? Who is spreading all this crap? If they're not man enough to say who they are, then why should we believe them?

Seems to me like Ryan is just the kid the media is all over before the draft this year. Oh well, prove them wrong, Ryan. That will shut them the hell up!

Why didn't I think of that?  Re:  My first wedding.
Rather than have his father, Archie Mallett throw a conniption fit and demand a trade to another team, Ryan Mallett has beat the Panthers to the punch.  Nice going kid!  Way to be!

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

The Panthers seem fine with drafting immature, stupid, over-rated QBs so this may not be as big a deal as people think. They took Jimmy Claussen last year, so why not muddy the gene pool in their QB Carousel further with Mallett? I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the conversations between those two dim-wits.

1500 it’s apparent by your comment you don’t watch college football because if you did you would know that Mallet went up against the toughest defenses in college football every week and picked them apart. The Hogs were 10-2 for the season. The two losses came against Bama and Auburn (a game that Mallet was knocked out in the 2nd quarter). He averaged over 300 yards passing against the best division in college football (The SEC WEST) and playing Ohio and Texas A&M. See most people get their news from these threads and don’t know jack shiggady when it comes to common sense. Also what this story doesn’t tell you is that although he couldn’t meet with the whole front office the next day one executive was able to meet with him at his hotel, where he was able to see just how sick he was. Also watch the Gruden show real close Mallet not only knew his position but all five receivers as well. If I remember correctly Cam couldn’t even call a play and this is the #1 overall pick this year.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

I was out on the town on April 8th in Charlotte getting really wasted as well, didn't see him though. Though he could lose millions of dollars out of this. He probably figured it was a waste of time to meet with the Panthers since they weren't going to pick him with the #1 pick anyways, though they could've taken him with the high 2nd round pick. Either way it sends a bad message, he should wait until after he gets guaranteed money before pulling a Jamarcus Russel.

Smart feller that Mallett.........take the free trip to Charlotte, get wined and dined and then tell them he'd rather burn in hell than play for them.   I couldn't agree with you more Ryan......

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

Expensive night out.  How much money did he lose on his first contract because of this incident (either he is drafted lower and/or paid less)?  $100k?  $1M?
And you want this guy to run your offense....sounds like a terrible idea to me.
