Note: Mallett's agents and the Panthers organization have both issued statements claiming the quarterback was genuinely sick on the morning of April 9. You can read those statements here.

----------

If the sources talking to Brad Briggs of the National Football Post are correct, Ryan Mallett’s draft stock could soon take a serious hit. Briggs says the Arkansas quarterback skipped a pre-draft meeting with the Panthers earR. Mallett (US Presswire)lier this month after a night out on the town in Charlotte.

Mallett reportedly arrived in town April 8 and met team officials for a dinner that night. There were supposed to be meetings the next day at Bank of America Stadium but they were cancelled after Mallett called the team saying he was sick. The problem? Sources say Mallett was seen out on the town following the late dinner.

Earlier this week there were reports that Mallett had admitted to teams that he has used drugs in the past. Questions about rumored failed drug tests and character concerns have dogged the talented pocket passer throughout the 2011 draft process.

UPDATE 12:40 p.m. EST:
Briggs isn't the only one reporting this. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer says league sources tell him Mallett skipped a meeting with GM Marty Hurney.

UPDATE 2:20 p.m. EST:
Mallett’s agent, J.R. Carroll has responded. “I’ll tell you this — Ryan was in his hotel room by about 10 o’clock,” Carroll told ESPN’s Adam Schefter, via Pro Football Talk.

“I’m pretty sure Ryan was really, really sick. He told me he was sick the night before. And I know Ryan wasn’t out late night. I know that for sure. He’s not an idiot.”

Carroll says Mallett had dinner with Julio Jones the night of April 8 but left early because he did not feel well. He also says Mallett met with Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski the next morning but cancelled the rest of the day’s meetings due to sickness.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

I disagree m4615358, if you can get Ryan Mallett at any point in the 2nd round he would be a steal. I see a very cocky, immature kid with a rocket arm that spins the ball like no one else in the draft. As long as Mallett isn't drafted by a team that needs an opening day starter, he will be fine. What he needs is to be knocked down a notch, and I think sliding in the draft will accomplish that.
I see the Pats as the perfect spot for him to land, in the 2nd round though. Like Rodgers sitting behind Favre, Young sitting behind Montana, he needs to go into a situation where he has to beat out a superstar. Mallett is a competitive guy, and watching him throw in practice will keep any QB in the NFL on his toes.
If he is drafted as the "savior" of the franchise, he will fail. If he goes any where in the draft and is expected to start this season, he will fail. He's not ready to lead a NFL at this point. If he were to go to the Pats, he may not beat out Brady, but will push him and given a shot may take the ball and not give it back. Thats how Brady got his job.

It's not rasict!! It might be QB bias, but not rasict. The QB is the most important position and the most important CHARACTER position. If he is not taken in the first half of the first round; the fact is he will have less room for error. Team's will give very highly drafted QBs ever opportunity to succeed. However, later picks get very little chance to succeed. (ie. B. Quinn and Clausen)

The fact that this kid couldn't behave himself for 6 months until he gets drafted shows his poor decision making ablilty, which last I checked comes in handy at QB. He was horrible on Gruden QB show too. I'm afriad this kid's NFL future doesn't look bright. \

I hope I'm wrong.....

can't read the defense or learn a playbook at all
This is just not accurate. These are two things he has done well according to NFL scouts, not just my personal opinion. I'm all for criticizing him for his faults, but give him credit where it is due.

So Mallett jumps on here, creates the username Gully, and tries to get people to belive his BS?  Mallett is a tool, and any team taking him deserves what they get; a QB version of Matt Jones.

Report: Mallett spurns Panthers after night out

This is racist. Where's the reports of black athletes who go out on the town when they're young and single? Where's the reports of black athletes skipping meetings? Because they are, but the media won't cover it, because they're racist. They want whites completely out of the NFL. Don't let it happen! Mallet will be an incredible QB in the NFL, most likely an immediate starter. If he doesn't go in the first 5 picks, every team there deserves to lose every game for the rest of their existance.
