Report: Bucs will release Talib

The last month of the offseason apparently has shown the Buccaneers why they need to part ways with the ultra-talented, often-troubled CB Aqib Talib.

That’s the report from the St. Petersburg Times, which writes that, barring a last-minute changing of the mind, Tampa Bay will release Talib as soon as the NFL reopens for business.

Talib's timeline
As you know, Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pistol-whipping the live-in boyfriend of his sister and then firing gunshots at him as he tried to flee the area in Garland, Texas.

And this is not the first time Talib has created drama around himself or his teammates. At the rookie symposium in 2008, he fought a teammate, and in 2009, he used his helmet to crack CB Torrie Cox in the head (it might or might not have been an accident, as Talib was going after T Donald Penn). He also agreed to a plea deal last year for a battery charge involving a cab driver – which led to a one-game suspension.

As the Times’ Rick Stroud writes, “As far as the Bucs are concerned, the outcome of the (latest) case won't matter. They know Talib at the least faces a long league suspension. The Bucs have reached a point where they believe Talib's talent no longer justifies the trouble he generates. They believe it's only a matter of time before he runs afoul of the rules again. That's why general manager Mark Dominik made it clear last week that the Bucs have altered their draft plans to include selecting a cornerback.”

As some would say, it’s probably about time Tampa Bay came to that conclusion.

Report: Bucs will release Talib

EQUALLY AS FUTILE???? Ummmm, did I miss something? I'm not going to waste the time to look & see when the last time was that the Lioness' made the playoffs. I KNOW the 'Boys have been there 2 of the last 4 years, twice as division champ. I will say that the Lioness' future improved immediately the day they FINALLY got rid of Millen. However, it is still wrong to compare them with the Cowboys & also to say that the Cowboys have been drafting bad character players. The Cowboys have a bad rep from back in the 90's & the problems they had then, and also from SIGNING FREE AGENTS like Pacman Jones some others. But their DRAFTS have been good, as far as "character" goes

$546k/pick? Really? Is that how you judge CB's now?

How about if I judge him by “off-field” altercation?

The Tampa Bay Bucs paid Talib 2.5 million in guaranteed money per off-field altercation. Now that’s funny! Personally if I were the Bucs I would look at it as paying him 546k per pick first. Much easier to justify, in the terms of actual positive production on the football field.

LOL, per pick. That's comedy!

Being able to con some sport team to pay you 2.5 million per “off-field” altercation. That pure genius, Hollywood couldn’t write that script.

The cost of doing business in the NFL keeps going up, thanks to player contracts like Talib’s. The Buc would have been better off giving Talib’s money to charity rather than fund his so-called lifestyle.

Have a great day.

I hate to pile on, but Aqib 'the weed' Talib is a Kansas Jayhawk. That university has seen success on the basketball court, and the football team did play in a BCS Orange Bowl recently. But trouble has followed the university much the same way that it has followed Aqib.

There was a ticket scalping scandal.

There were fights between the football and basketball team over 'turf' which included prized seats in the cafeteria.

There was Markieff Morris shooting an airsoft bb gun at pedestrians near Jayhawk Towers.

Dion Rayford tried to climb through the drive-thru window at a Lawrence area Taco Bell because, seriously, the workers had forgotten to include a chalupa in his bag of goodies. He, of course, got stuck in the window of the 'restaurant' and had to be freed by emergency responders who found an open container of alcohol in the car.

Did I forget to mention Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur smoking marijuana with a couple of hookers in their Memphis hotel room during a rookie orientation? They were expelled and asked not to return. Chalmers claimed that they were not hookers and that he did not inhale any marijuana.

Aqib is a product of the great state of Kansas, which has brought us the Westboro Baptist cult, and the murder of a Wichita doctor who provided legal abortion services. From the outside it appears to me that Aqib had problems when he arrived in Lawrence. His problems got worse when 'the system' helped him cover up his mistakes and taught him that he was above the law. It is not an isolated situation. Now he pistol whips and then shoots at a man in Texas? I for one am not surprised.

$546k/pick? Really? Is that how you judge CB's now? How would you rate Revis or Asomougha? Per pick? Even though QB's hate to throw in their direction in the first place! Revis must have been WAAAAY overpaid for that playoff victory in Indy then; you know, the one where Payton avoided Reggie Wayne AT ALL COSTS!!!

LOL, per pick. That's comedy!

Big Loss for the Bucs, but had to be done, could have been a real distraction come next season if there is one. Another Draft need. which should be concentrating on Defense anyway maybe O line.

** captures

Clearly a typo...not the misuse of a non-word.

There you go.

Starblazer,

"irregardless" is not a word. Sometimes, people think it is...no matter what race they are. Try just using "regardless" next time. It IS a word, and capyures exactly what you'd like to express.

There you go.

Really??? Commenting about the Lions when the Cowboys are equally as futile. Really??? 5 championships are great, but guess what, that last one was 15 years ago... And it isn't about how many you have, but the next one. Any true "fan" would know that. The Patriots, Colts, and Steelers have DOMINATED the last 11 years of football. Do you think they care, NO, it's all about the next one!

If I'm a Lions fan, there is some reason for optimism. They have a decent coach, a great set of scouts, and most importantly, a direction. All they need is for Stafford to stay healthy, and a better offensive line. The Lions are making more strides than the Cowboys are. Mark my words...
