Report: Bucs will release Talib

The last month of the offseason apparently has shown the Buccaneers why they need to part ways with the ultra-talented, often-troubled CB Aqib Talib.

That’s the report from the St. Petersburg Times, which writes that, barring a last-minute changing of the mind, Tampa Bay will release Talib as soon as the NFL reopens for business.

Talib's timeline
As you know, Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pistol-whipping the live-in boyfriend of his sister and then firing gunshots at him as he tried to flee the area in Garland, Texas.

And this is not the first time Talib has created drama around himself or his teammates. At the rookie symposium in 2008, he fought a teammate, and in 2009, he used his helmet to crack CB Torrie Cox in the head (it might or might not have been an accident, as Talib was going after T Donald Penn). He also agreed to a plea deal last year for a battery charge involving a cab driver – which led to a one-game suspension.

As the Times’ Rick Stroud writes, “As far as the Bucs are concerned, the outcome of the (latest) case won't matter. They know Talib at the least faces a long league suspension. The Bucs have reached a point where they believe Talib's talent no longer justifies the trouble he generates. They believe it's only a matter of time before he runs afoul of the rules again. That's why general manager Mark Dominik made it clear last week that the Bucs have altered their draft plans to include selecting a cornerback.”

As some would say, it’s probably about time Tampa Bay came to that conclusion.

Report: Bucs will release Talib

The Bucs have reached a point where they believe Talib's talent no longer justifies the trouble he generates. They believe it's only a matter of time before he runs afoul of the rules again.

This has been a problem generated by NFL owners that should have been squelched years ago. Talent vs. the trouble they will create, coupled with the over payment of said player in the form of guaranteed money, equals owners claiming the cost of doing business has gone up.

The Buc’s signed Aqib Talib to a five year deal with 8.2 million guaranteed. In three years Talib had 15 picks. So the Buc’s shelled out around 546k per Talib pick. Yeah, I would say the cost of business is going up if I made some suspect business decisions like the Talib pick.

The owner truly need to get away from the “Talent vs. Trouble they will create” formula they have been using over the past ten years. It’s hurting the image of the league and the owners pocket book.

Peace.

Really Muzzer??? REALLY? The Cowboys & Raiders come to mind? Talent alone? Tell me, what formula do the LIONS use for their great drafting success that has allowed them to miss the playoffs for like.....FOREVER??? The 'Boys may have only 1 PLAYOFF win since 96, but they also have FIVE Lombardi's, which is FIVE more than the pussycats you root for. And the Raiders have THREE more than those same felines. Yeah, the Cowboys have had some bad characters in their time, but since the BS went on with Mike Irvin & the Whitehouse, they have tried to "educate" their players about avoiding sh*t like that, with a program that is led by Calvin Hill, a truly stand-up individual. Dez Bryant has had some issues this off-season, but nothing involving drugs, (see J Jolly for GREEN BAY), or women (see BRANDON MARSHALL). Your LIONS have SUCKED for years. A lot of it was because you had Millen as your GM, but whose fault is that? Take the trash out & your team becomes better? How about IMPROVING YOUR DRAFTING SKILLS MAKES YOUR TEAM BETTER??? Although Jerrah Jones is NOT a great GM, he can still run circles around Matt Millen, or anyone the Lioness' have had in a LONG time

Amen Necgrims, Unfortantley it is a money driven profession. When owners can capitalize on a name brand or make a buck they will. One day it will come crashing down. There will be no money to be made and everyone one the league will have a felony record....sad but true....

why doesn't the NFL just ban these people from working fro their company????? Enough is enough with these thug morons.. Any other corpporation and you would never step foot in the building or company again after these arrests and or problems. Seriously cut the crap already with these multi-millionaire felons and menace to society types!!!! Let them find work elsewhere like other civilians who have had trouble with the law

Ya, he was a bust under the Matt Millen regime. Remember the Lions selecting 3 recievers in the first round three years in a row?....Mayhew and Schwartz have been going away from that.....Make no mistake the Lions might make the playoffs next year. They are a dangerous team....but I will give them one more year to become a force in the league.

The first player that comes to mind Charles Rogers - I think that the lions took him w/ the #2 overall pick.

I'm not sure what "regime" he falls under - I don't really follow the lions that much

Naa that was Lewland, He had a DUI and shame on him.  You can get rid of him like Matt Millen...The two guys running this orginization are Mayhew and Schwartz. Now back to the players, still waiting for a character fail or arrest under the Mayhew Schwartz regime.

I'm a Lions fan. show me the criminals on that team.

Hey Cmacllini,  I'm a Lions fan. show me the criminals on that team. I think you will be hard pressed. You might have to go back some years to find one, and if you go back and find one I'm sure he doesnt play for the team today. Take out the trash and your team becomes better. I laugh at teams that draft on talent alone....Raiders and Cowboys come to mind. You pay the price for drafting thug punks looking for a paycheck...
