Brady on Rex: 'As long as he hates me, I'm cool'

NEW YORK -- Fact: if you ask anyone about anything in the NFL, you have to ask them about the New York Jets and Rex Ryan.

And if you find yourself at an Under Armour Charged Cotton Draft Chat with Tom Brady in New York City and fail to ask about Rex, well, you're fired on the spot.

Not by Brady though -- it's pretty obvious he's answered his share of questions about the division rivals at this point and could talk about something else.

"My favorite subject -- let's talk about the Jets," Brady half-joked, half-complained when asked about Ryan's new book. "As long as he hates me, I'm cool. Because he's the leader of that team and the players take after their coach. They've had successful postseasons, you know, getting to the AFC Championship Game. So I'm sure we'll be prepared to play them when we do."

The beauty of that quip is like ten-fold. It contains the stereotypical "Patriot Way" quote ("I'm sure we'll be prepared"), it offers a little reverence to Ryan's role ("he's the leader") and success ("success postseasons") but it also totally takes a potshot at the Jets inability to win a Super Bowl under Ryan thus far.

That's not saying that Ryan is a loser because he doesn't have a title, just that he's guaranteed a lot of them, and still has three less than Brady and Bill Belichick. The real tragedy here, of course, is that no one got to ask Brady about the shocking third-round move by the Pats to draft Ryan Mallett.

More than anything, though, it's a reminder that we need football back ASAP, so we can go back enjoying the rivalries that actually take on the field.

Brady on Rex: 'As long as he hates me, I'm cool'

catsandpats,

If the Super Bowl was won in the press, the Patriots would never lose one.  Every year, no matter who ELSE won it the previous year, all we hear is Patriots, Brady, Belichick, Patriots, Brady, Bob Kraft, Patriots, Brady, Belichick, Patriots, Brady.

How's your team done post-Spygate?

Brady on Rex: 'As long as he hates me, I'm cool'

Ryan has been the coach of the Jets for a far shorter time than has passed since Glamor Boy Brady's last (tainted) Super Bowl win.  Perhaps no one among the sycophantic media has told Brady that.

Hey Tom, show us your post-Spygate Super Bowl rings!

Kill 'em with kindness

The only thing Brady could have done to B-*** slap Rex harder would have been to give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Wells, as a Chiefs fan, how can you hate the Patriots?

Your team should be known as "Patriots Junior". Half your team is made of former Patriots stars.

To name a few ... Pioli, Weiss, Crennel, Cassel, Vrabel, etc.

Hell, I even root for them when they're not playing New England.

The only time anyone talks about the Jets, is if it begins with The Patriots. If the super bowl was won in the press, the Jets might have a chance.

Calm down Patriot Nation, Mallett will be traded!

First off, I HATE the Patriots!!! (maybe because they've been so successful), but I HATE them all the same.  In regards to Mallett, he's not sticking around.  Think about it, a first round talent that dropped to the 3rd round because of character issues.  A coach and organization that WILL control him, get him straightened out and then....dangle the bait.  If Mallett was a stand up guy, great at the combine, humble and respectful with no dark shadows off the field, he would have been a top 5 pick most likely.  The Patriots get him in the 3rd, all ready have their quarterback for atleast 5 years, possibly the next 7.  Do you really think Mallett will ever see time?  No, they'll get him all packaged up nice and neat and then trade him to a team next year like Arizona, Minnesota, the Bills, the Bengals, whoever needs him.  Though I hate to admit it, Bellicheck pulled another out of his hat....KUDOS

It doesn't sound like a "pot shot" to me.  The writer wanted drama, Brady didn't give him any, so he dug deep and manufactured it.  Rex thanks you for helping him sell his book.

This here is proof that there is an east coast media bias. As someone who lives on the west coast, I can say with certainty that people can talk NFL without bringing up the Jets. In fact, I don't think I've ever talked about the Jets with anyone. I can't name one person that I know that is a Jets fan. The only way the Jets get brought up is if we're having a discussion on the top CBs in the league. Brinson, usually your stuff is pretty good, but dude, get out of your bubble. There are more teams outside of the northeast that people can talk about.
