M. Oher
Good thing Michael Oher waited a few years before venting about his frustration with ESPN’S NFL Draft guru Todd McShay. The Ravens left tackle does not appreciate McShay’s waving of the character red flag when evaluating players.

Oher tweeted on Tuesday,“Ok im so tired of the Character issues they are puttiing on ppl!” Oher tweeted Tuesday.   “What Character issues?!? Somebody tell me? . . .  I never got in trouble with the Law . . . yes sir no sir guy . . . But this Todd Mcshay guy acts if he knows ppl on a personal level get real!”

That wasn’t all. Oher later tweeted to McShay directly.

@McShay13 What if someone was to talk about your son . . . and he had character issues!! Thats how my family felt. You need to meet ppl first and then judge them not go off what you hear!! . . . And I respect Mel Kiper way more then I respect you…your a joke!!”

Prior to being drafted, some people who had read about Oher’s upbringing in Michael Lewis’ book The Blindside had questions about Oher’s readiness for the NFL. Those questions were often painted over with the broad brush of “character concerns”.

frappe7601,

In the context Michael Oher is refering to...it was absolutely about race. The Ryan Mallett and Cam Newton cases are well documented and everyone knows what they are. When a draft analyst goes to the "character" well when the issue of a player's character is vague at best...its about stereotypes, plain and simple. When calling a young man's character into question, you had better have all the facts before you throw that out there.

fmciii, And Charlie the Whale and Scott Pioli never did even that much. Never having played the game is no bar to excelling at coaching. Or running a franchise. Ultimate case-in-point? Marv Levy, whose HOF career ended its playing days at Coe College in Iowa, which makes Richmond seem the SEC champions, by comparison.

Dabigchill, I made no assumptions. I did point out, by inference, that both you and I are out here, wasting our time, doing for free what McShay and Kiper do for good money. What's more, had it not been for Mel's INVENTION of the professional draft analyst, I very much doubt that any of us would today be paying near the attention to the league that we do. No coverage of the draft, for a start. The criticisms that you make of the pros come back to smack BOTH me and you upside the head. Me, I'm not a masochist. You?

todd mcshay is a joke
here is a guy who played football in Mass, then was a walk-on 5th string DB at richmond who never played but on the bench. He starts scouting the Va area with a guy who happens to have a connection with ESPN. Then he was in the right place at the right time. Mcshay is a joke never repsected him as a talent evaluator and still doesnt know what he talking about. Let the facts speak for themselves,
