Harris will get his Super Bowl ring

Although the Packers last season released CB Al Harris, who then found work with the Dolphins, Green Bay CEO Mark Murphy said Harris will receive a Super Bowl ring nonetheless.

Harris never actually played a down for the Packers. He started the season on the physically unable to play list, and he began practicing in October. But rookie CB Sam Shields was playing well enough as the No. 3 CB that the team felt comfortable enough in saying goodbye to Harris – who had spent eight seasons in Green Bay.

So, this reward is more of a thank you for nearly a decade of service and helping the Packers in the leadup to a Super Bowl run rather than being a direct contributor last season.

Which, as linebacker Nick Barnett said, is a pretty classy move.

In honor of Al Harris

He played a lot of games with the Packers, and had a lot of memorable moments.  We will not forget him, and I think Matt Hasselbeck won't either, lol.

Sadly his age and injuries caught up with him and with Sam Shields showing enough progress to be a reliable starter, they had to let him go.

Either way, the Packers showed some respect for him with this move.  If he was healthy during the off season, it's questionable how things would have gone.

I agree, this just shows how much more classy the Green Bay organization is as a whole.  Harris was an essential part of that defense and hats off to the GB organization for honoring him in that way.

Awesome. I was sad to see him go as I am with any long-time Packer, but Im really glad they decided to do this. Even though it is more symbolic than anything, Harris has helped this team hugely throughout the years and it's too bad that he didn't get to be a bigger part of this year. I'll always remember his pick-six against Hasselbeck as one of my most exctinig PO memories.

This is a classy move by a strong organization. I do feel that the lockout resentment may have contributed to this decision, but none the less, this is a great gesture.  I hope Al does not feel any bitterness towards the Pack.

Very classy move. Too bad they had to let him go in the first place, but I think his  time and dedication to the green and gold earned him the ring.
