Kolb to Arizona a 'slam dunk' after lockout?

The lockout is probably the greatest thing ever to happen to Kevin Kolb. With each passing day, his value seems to grow more and more.

But, he's been specifically attached to one team in recent days: the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, some are calling Kolb to the Cards a "slam dunk."

"Arizona ... a slam dunk as much as you can have a slam dunk," ESPN's Sal Paolantonio told Peter King (on Sirius Radio, I believe, though I cannot confirm).

There was actually some chatter that a Kolb-Cards deal was already done, with the principle parts being Kolb for Patrick Peterson (aka "2011 first-rounder") and a 2012 second-rounder.

Kevin Kolb: So Hot Right Now
That rumor was probably based on Roger Goodell's recent statements that teams could trade during the brief period in between lockouts. However, Andy Reid shot the rumor out of the sky before it really every took its metaphorical wings and started flapping too high.

Still, even if there isn't a deal now, there's almost certainly going to be one before 2011 starts. There are too many teams that have a need at quarterback -- yes, still! -- and too many good fits for Kolb for the Eagles to wait and try to utilize him as a backup.

And yes, for those wondering, yes, every story about the NFL eventually ends up in some sort of discussion about Kolb's value to other teams.

Kolb to Arizona a 'slam dunk' after lockout?

how do you know what the cards are going to do?  you don't know $hIt! you're just an armchair GM.  after their season last year and with Fitz there, they need a much better CB.  Their defense isn't too bad and while peterson is a solid cornerback, teams will just shy away from his side of the field which in turn isn't going to help as much as kolb would.  So, stop pretending like you know what they are going to do.

All this specualtion is killing me. They really need to make a deal so we can see whats what. Kolb is just as unproven as peterson is. Neither have proven anything at the pro level and both have tons of talent and hype to live up to. I hope Peterson doesn't go to philly just because being a fan of a NFC east team i would rather not have to deal with him if he does turn into a beast. Kolb is probably going to be traded and probably for a first round pick but i dont feel he's worth that much. So far his hype has out lived his actual stats. I hope he gets a shot to prove he is a legit star in this league but where he goes to do that is anyone's guess. Dont be surprised if he stays in philly. With an unpredictable QB like Vick u never know when he is one scramble and hard hit away from Kolb becoming the starter. Until the lockout ends lets assume he's still the back up in philly for arguement sake.

Two things. This trade was a rumor only; at that it was a rumor that was immediately shot down and was referring to rumored 'pre-draft' talks.

There is absolutely no way Arizona's GM or Coach will give up Peterson for any of the available quarterbacks, whether FA or thru trade.

They would however give up a future second round pick or two....possibly even a first round pick, the only reason i can see them giving up a first round pick is under the assumption that AZ will not have a 'high' first round pick again anytime soon!

why all the buzz on Kolb? I mean really what has he done? Talk of a 30 mil contract guaranteed? Sooo silly. if I were the Cards I'd push for Palmer.

Arell, heard the same comments about one "pacman" Jones. There are no sure bets on draftees, you know nothing for real about them.

Patrick Peterson could be one of the best corners every to play with the phisical tools he has.  I know the Cardinals need a qb, but now that you know who your first round pick is I don't think you can make that trade if your Arizona.  Hell, the Bengals will take the Peterson and you can have the second round pick!  Let's just get football back so we can stop all of this speculating!

Kolb to Arizona a 'slam dunk' after lockout?

I remember Billy Volek putting up huge, MONSTER numbers in the very few games where he was given a chance to start too. For those of you who think Kolb is the real deal after 7 starts, look no further than Volek. The only difference? Nobody gave that poor guy a chance...

The jury is still out on Kolb, but I for one think this is a good trade. I wouldn't want to lose Peterson, but in return, you are getting a first round talent who has already put in the years to learn the NFL game. Will he be a Peyton or a Brady? Who knows. You take that same risk in the draft and still have to wait a few years before finding out in the first place.

Kolb's resume does look impressive for the brief amount of time he has actually played. Remember, he was putting up major stats with a sub-par receiving corps in Philly. Before any of you slam that comment, let me clarify. The Eagles have some decent receivers, but as a group, they are not all that great. I say make the trade. He's somewhat proven and you have plenty of pieces in place to make a run soon. I don't think it will pan out this year thanks to the lockout, resulting in a limited amount of time to get comfortable with new receivers, but after one year, I think we will be talking about Kolb on a regular basis!
