Warner: players will 'have to give in'

In statements that will surely not make his former teammates (and the rest of the league’s players, for that matter) very happy, Kurt Warner told USA Today that eventually the players will have to cave in to the owners in order to end the labor strife.

"I'm still optimistic that they're going to find a way to make sure there's football," Warner told the paper. "The players have too much to lose. And as much as I hate to say it, at some point, the players have to give in. And, hopefully, they can gain some other things on their side.

"But ultimately, they have too much to lose."

Warner makes an interesting point, and I think he might very well be correct, though some players have questioned why Warner would even say this now. As the summer months roll into fall and players still aren’t receiving paychecks, I certainly could see a huge crack in the foundation of the NFLPA’s supposed solidarity. The owners obviously have larger chunks of money to lose, but they’re also much better equipped to handle it.

You won’t, for instance, see an owner trying to secure a $500,000 loan with 23 percent interest. Instead, they force one-week furloughs on their lowest level employees in order to save money in tough times.

Said Warner: "I always hope, 'Let's get something that's good for everybody.’ (But) just because we have leverage doesn't mean we just screw the people we have leverage on.

"Let's come together and say, 'This is what we need. We need you guys to pull back here, and we want to make it so you can get benefits and you can be taken care of long term.' … That's what I hope gets done. The players have to give a little, and the owners have to give a little, and it's good for everybody in the end. And let's go play some football."

Warner: players will 'have to give in'

Would even one of the CBS hack writers at least attempt accuracy in their attempt to make complete make believe sound remotely plausible?

You won’t, for instance, see an owner trying to secure Instead, they force on their lowest level employees in order to save money in tough times.

Instead they must force cuts on staff and employees because the players forced this situation by walking away from the negotiations, and pretending to decertify as a Union when they clearly remain a Union.

Said Warner: "I always hope, 'Let's get something that's good for everybody.’ (But) just because we have leverage doesn't mean we just screw the people we have leverage on.

Reason and honesty from an intelligent player that was never greedy, and merely wanted to start.

"ihateidiots1" sounds like you mostly hate yourself. Who said what he says is the truth? You? Don't make me laugh. You sound like some frustated Rams fan. Maybe Dancing with the stars is your thing. " quit making the USA look like idiots in this country?" What language do you speak? I know you have a man crush on Curty but he is married pal. Get over it. You can do it. Warner is a tool. Face it.

ihateidiots, I read your post and SolidGold's and yours definitely is at a much lower intellect. His post gave his opinion on the story. Yours can be summed as "I don't agree with you so you're stupid idiot stupid dumb USA! idiot stupid."

So, uh, yeah.....thanks for that hard-hitting, non-idiotic analysis. lol

Hey solid gold..piece of shit. Telling the truth isn't always stupid. Think before you speak please. If you think Warner is wrong, go smoke whatever you're smoking and quit making the USA look like all we have are idiots in this country.

Warner is 100% correct. If for no other reason than the owners will certainly be able to hold out longer than the majority of the players. All pro players are extremely well-paid for what they do. It's certainly not a matter of poor pay, poor working conditions, lack of benefits, or abuses by management. The deal on the table is generally fair. Take it. Do not attempt to break the bank as other unions have sometimes done. Many small-market teams are already in the red.

The bible thumper will not be too well liked with the players now, not that he was before. That was a stupid thing to say that is for sure. The tool doesn't even play anymore. Why would he even say something like that . Total tool.

As I understand it, it was not the players who have caused this in the first place. They would have gladly re-signed the previous CBA, as it was a player friendly agreement. The owners are the ones who opted out of the current agreement claiming that the players are being given too much of the profits, and the owners aren't making enough money. The players aren't infact asking for more money, they are being asked to give up money by the owners.   This is why there is so much being made of the owners not opening their books for auditing by the nflpa.  The players are basically saying "if you want us to agree to a pay cut, you have to show us the proof that you are in financial trouble" This is a lockout by the owners, not a strike by the players.

Sorry, but I love football and support it 100%.  However, these people are way overpaid, I have been saying it all along, and now they want more? For what? If your mad at the owners, then quit playing the sport and buy your own franchise so you can do whatever you want with it.
