Freddie Mitchell to Kolb: Beware of Reid

For a guy who never caught more than 35 passes in a season during his four-year career, former Eagles WR Freddie Mitchell remains outspoken six years into his retirement. Whether he remains relevant is another matter entirely.

Either way, Mitchell had an interesting reaction to the story that Philadelphia coach Andy Reid indicated to backup QB Kevin Kolb that he would do whatever was best for Kolb heading into next season (perhaps not coincidentally, Reid is on record as saying the Eagles could be interested in trading Kolb).

The following is what Mitchell told WIP radio in Philadelphia, via sportsradiointerviews.com:

“Believe that if you want Kevin. Believe that if you want. Andy Reid … I love him to death. He’s like my father and whatever else, but I’m going to keep it real. Andy is going to do what is best for the Philadelphia Eagles. I tried when I was going on after we lost the Super Bowl [XXXIX] …I went in there and I did not want to go to the media, and I said, ‘Hey Coach Reid, I had problems with Donovan McNabb. You know I can’t eat off of 12 catches a year. I need more catches. I’m doing all the things with the blocking and whatever else to make it happen. I need more catches. Donovan will not throw me the ball.’ Andy Reid was like, ‘Okay Fred, well just don’t tell nobody. You don’t have to come to this next mini-camp. We’re going to try to…I know a couple of teams and we’re going to try to trade you.’

“At the end of the day what he tried to do was he tried to put a price tag on me that nobody was even going to touch. When they found out that they wasn’t going to touch me, he released me, and then the blackball began with all kinds of dirt saying I was a cancer to the team. I talk too much and everything else. It’s funny because you never heard a teammate complain about me. You never heard that or whatever else, but he put the cancer [comment] on. Kevin Kolb, do not think them guys or anybody in the NFL is your friend. The only friend that you have is your agent and, if you’re a left or right-handed quarterback, is your arm. That’s it. Them guys at the end of the day they are going to go and save their job, save their butt, and go out and do what’s best for the Philadelphia Eagles. You need to do what you need to do.”

Ah yes, but that’s life, isn’t it? And though we probably didn’t need a 32-year-old former wide receiver to tell us that, it's nice to know that Mitchell is still around.

Reid to Kolb: Beware of Freddie Mitchell

Mitchell was one of Philly's biggest 1st round draft pick busts. He was only good at running his mouth. I LMAO when he ran his mouth before the superbowl and when the media asked Belichek what he thought of what Mitchell said he told them "I don't care what he said he is a terrible receiver and I like it when he plays against us so we have one less worry. And you can print that." Then afterwards he ran his mouth again saying Mc5 and T.O. didn't want to win the game and if they had passed to him they would have won it. Well Freddie, if you're so good when the Eagles cut you why couldn't you make the Chiefs, Cowboys, Browns, Ravens, or even the CFL? Hell, you couldn't even make it as a barbecue restaurant owner or marijuana dealer either.

Freddie Mitchell to Kolb: Beware of Reid

Really Freddie...you kinda were less than average as a receiver. You didnt do that much with the ball when you had it. As for Andy Reid, who doesnt know the guy is a wolf in cheesesteak clothing. He will do what he can to win a game not worry about Freddie "Alligator Arms" Mitchell. As for Kevin Kolb, well he has proved one thing, he deserves a shot to play because he has been at least decent in his scattered career, but not on this team.

Freddie Mitchell to Kolb: Beware of Reid

Wow, God forbid Andy Reid would do what's best for the Eagles instead of what's best for Kolb.  I mean, isn't the point of an NFL coach to make sure everybody gets an equal number of reps, equal number of catches, and everything that's best for their personal career?  It has nothing to do with trying to help a team win games.  Everyone should know that football is all about the individual person and is in no way shape or form about a team.  Clearly Andy Reid needs to learn that.

Freddie Mitchell to Kolb: Beware of Reid

The didn't call him Freddie "Alligator Arms" Mitchell for nothing. He was asked to make the tough catches, but that's too much to ask of a soft receiver. He always tried to brand himself, but wasn't good enough to get it done. Reid may do what's best for the Eagles, but it isn't like Mitchell was an integral part of the offense. Can anyone blame Reid for hearing a complaint from a second-rate player and desiring to trade him.

Kevn Kolb has more talent and more value at his position than Mitchell ever had for a receiver. Leave it to a self-loving has-been to try to stay relavant long after he's left the game.

If you feel that way, why are you making him relevant by copying another person's work to present as your own here?

Freddie Mitchell to Kolb: Beware of Reid

Freddie needs help with everything. My girlfriend was watching some show called "Millionaire Matchmaker" or something like that and good ole' Freddie was on that episode paying someone to get him a date.
