DeAngelo Hall owes $24k in back taxes

Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall probably isn't hurting for cash, but he owes $24,202.06 in back taxes on his Northampton County, Virginia, property.

(Brief aside: Hall isn't the only NFL player to miss a payment -- or 36 -- on a property, home, car, jet ski … whatever, but it is a reminder that, one way or another, the lockout can't last. Owners have more dough than players, and in general, are less inclined to spend it frivolously. Which means that once the money runs out, players will be more likely to settle, even if that includes making concessions previously thought off the table. Luckily, it may not get to that point.)

Hall, whose residence is assessed at $1.3 million, will have a few months to square up his $24,000 debt, but if he doesn't the county will sell the home at auction.

The Daily News first reported the story and couldn't reach Hall for comment. And the Redskins couldn't reach out to Hall because there can be no contact between players and teams during the lockout. Even if those rules sound more like guidelines.

As for Hall, the former Falcons first-round pick has made tens of millions of dollars during his seven-year career. This includes the six-year, $55 million deal the Redskins gave him in February 2009 (because they're not an outfit known to overspend for talent), as well as the heist Hall perpetrated against the Raiders, where he averaged over $1 million a game until Oakland had seen enough and cut him eight games into the 2008 season.

As ProFootballTalk.com's Michael David Smith joked in April, "I guess [Hall] must have saved his money wisely to get through that tough stretch with the Redskins when he only made $200,000."

We'll just assume that Hall has the $24,000 to make good on his debt, although the road to the poor house is littered with tales of rags-to-riches-to-rags.

I almost enjoy reading these posts from the semi-intellectuals who like to jump on the "player hater" bandwagon. Almost.  What you knuckleheads fail to realize, or perhaps accept, is that this article isn't just some trumped up player-hating... it's yet another example of what's wrong with the system.  I don't care that Hall (or fill your favorite jocks name) makes millions, or drives 6 Mercedes or has the time and inclination to create multiple bastard children.  What does bother me is that the guy has decided to forego his responsibility for those actions.  It's been pointed out he makes millions - SO PAY YOUR FREAKING BILLS TARD!  These athletes refuse to pay these debts because either a) they are genuinely broke after squandering those millions, or b) they feel so ENTITLED that they choose not to pay.  Hey you, yes YOU: the self absorbed juvenile deiniquent preening idiot narcissistic donkey richard. Wake and realize you aren't that special just because you run a nice 40 and can pick up large, heavy objects.  You're just blessed with the opportunity to make a great living entertaining people.  So pay your bills and act like you're an adult.  For you "players" out there who defend this sort of activity and call us responsible members of society "haters" for pointing out Mr. Hall's B.S., well maybe you should quit idolizing these thugs and start working so that you too can make the long dollars like the rest of us hard working stiffs. (I should account for a good portion of that $10 million over ten years all by myself there jerky, so I'm pretty sure ALL the readers and writers together are going to equal DH's "amazing" salary...)

Can't blame MeAngelo. I didn't think anyone in America that lives in a house valued at over a million bucks pays taxes either.

No doubt MeAngelo will cough up the 24k though. His endorsement deal with Vagisil as the MVP (Most Valuable P***y) at the NFL touch football exhibition, formally known as the Pro Bowl, has to be worth at least that.

This is just another part of the poisonous atmosphere that has developed in 21st Century America. Everything that everyone does is wrong.  I did not inherit the irrational celebrity hatred gene. Many other people have, unfortunately.

I actually realize how much hatred exists. No one else seems to feel that way.
