David Tyree is not in favor of same-sex marriage

A few days ago we brought you the news of former Giants LB Michael Strahan’s endorsement of marriage equality for everyone.

So, with the New York state legislature teetering on the brink of passing a law that allows the legalization of same-sex marriage, former Giants hero David Tyree has weighed in on the matter.

And though there have been some high-profile athletes who have come out in favor of the law – Strahan is one and NHLer Sean Avery is another – Tyree takes the opposite approach (and the same attitude that the most commenters took on the original Strahan post).

Namely, Tyree says anarchy will rule if same-sex couples continue to marry.

"This will be the beginning of our country sliding toward, it's a strong word, but anarchy,” Tyree told the anti-gay group, the National Organization for Marriage, via the New York Post. "How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all the sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or agenda ... and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country.”

It’s interesting, though. In his interview, Tyree  talks about how his father wasn’t in the home when he was growing up (he says he was impacted severely by that). But a fair question to follow that would be: Well, what if he was raised by two mothers in a committed relationship instead of just one mother? Or two fathers? Would that have been so much worse than growing up in a single-parent home?

You can check out the video below to see the full interview.

cubuffan1, I find it sad that you think marriage has nothing to do with religion.

Since you don't view religion important here, I find it interesting that you haven't responded to my evolution comment on the fact that if gay marriage were the original way, we wouldn't have had a second generation of man.

Any thoughts?

God believes that Atheism is wrong, wright? So then Atheists should not be allowed to get married. What about divorce? Since when did the almighty advocate getting divorced or marrying for the fifth time? If god hates gays why does he/she/it make so many?

David took the heat on CNN this morning with humility, just the way Christ would have.
I just wiped my ass, the way Christ would have...Am I saved?

David, Please continue to stand by your beliefs, In anything that you do. Unforunately, your discussion with the ankcor woman?, whoever she was, was so de-railed by her opinionated and confrontational approach that she would have shown to ANYONE that had something to say.  You held your ground so gracefully and displayed respect and attention.  I go off point here, but had to address my displeasure about how she treated you. "She acted like a Bully" not a Journalist. She ruined the conversation, that should have been a exchange of Information between a spokesperson and a journalist. She should have been better at "Reporting The Story and Opinions of the other side of The controversy"  Thats how things get settled and we move forward as a Society.  She needs to go back to her Text and learn how to be a Journalist, not an arbitraitor. What the Hay, is up with that woman?  Shes off my list, maybe she can get a job with The Housewives! HeHe. Now, go have a Wonderful Day. Smile

If god didn't want gay people to get together why wasn't "Thou shall not let Tim sleep with Bob" one of the Ten Commandments?

To change something that hasn't been changed for thousands of years is a bit odd, don't you think?

Yeah, marriage hasn't changed in a thousand years. Ridiculous statement.

Why is that when someone stands against Gay marriage and for the bible, they are considered homophobic and scared of gay people and what it measn.. and are pointed to as bible thumpers or holy rollers..

Because they are homophobic. It hurts no one to allow gay people to marry.

The bible teaches marriage to be between man and woman

Or a man and many women.

I have gay friends and they know my opinion on the matter.. to me it is wrong, but I don't hate them for it.

I don't believe you have any gay friends. What gay person would want to be friends with someone who looked down on them.

I pray that maybe they will see the bible teaches it to be wrong and accept Christ as their personal saviour..

Who wouldn't want a friend who believes their lifestyle is wrong.

The sanctity of marriage is not being respected by modern views.

What "sanctity" are you talking about. Half of marriages end in divorce so there is no sanctity.

Marriage has NOTHING to do with religion, it's a legal contract that allows partners to have special rights not afforded single people and if gays want to get in on that, that's cool with me.

This has nothing to do with interracial issues.  It's a gender issue.  Stick with gay rights and prove a point.

For thousands of years, laws in America disallowed interracial relationships of any kind - not just marriage. Would Tyree be employing the same flawed logic in the times when these barbaric laws were being argued against? For some reason, I think not.

When will the hypocrisy and bigotry end?

Ridiculous.
