David Tyree is not in favor of same-sex marriage

A few days ago we brought you the news of former Giants LB Michael Strahan’s endorsement of marriage equality for everyone.

So, with the New York state legislature teetering on the brink of passing a law that allows the legalization of same-sex marriage, former Giants hero David Tyree has weighed in on the matter.

And though there have been some high-profile athletes who have come out in favor of the law – Strahan is one and NHLer Sean Avery is another – Tyree takes the opposite approach (and the same attitude that the most commenters took on the original Strahan post).

Namely, Tyree says anarchy will rule if same-sex couples continue to marry.

"This will be the beginning of our country sliding toward, it's a strong word, but anarchy,” Tyree told the anti-gay group, the National Organization for Marriage, via the New York Post. "How can marriage be marriage for thousands of years and now all the sudden because a minority, an influential minority, has a push or agenda ... and totally reshapes something that was not founded in our country.”

It’s interesting, though. In his interview, Tyree  talks about how his father wasn’t in the home when he was growing up (he says he was impacted severely by that). But a fair question to follow that would be: Well, what if he was raised by two mothers in a committed relationship instead of just one mother? Or two fathers? Would that have been so much worse than growing up in a single-parent home?

You can check out the video below to see the full interview.

Everyone has an opinion on this and here's mine. It doesn't effect me either way so I don't care.

If it passes and it offends you, turn the other cheek like Jesus said. If you believe your religion -then I'll quote Daniel Tosh," It's not like they're going to get into heaven. God's got that goal line defence up at the pearly gates."  If your argument includes the term 'sanctity of marriage' you are a fool. If you don't think the sanctity of marriage hasn't already been brytally tarnished by straight poeple then you must not be paying attention.

If it doesn't pass, oh well. Keep living your life the way you want with the person you want. If a peice of paper saying your union is legal is all you're about, then what's the point anyway. To me the child raising thing is the real question here and everyone thinks they know, but nobody really knows what causes people to grow up to be gay. Or a rapist. Or a serial killer. So unless there is proof, don't speculate either way. One thing I think is that the kids might be a little more tolerant. And that's something we need alot more of in this country.

Well let me say this, and do realize that I'am screaming.  I may be no athelete, no one interesting, and I will most likely never have my 15 minutes; nevertheless, I'am happy with this!  This F$#$-in donkey caught a ball on his head and has a name for taking away a bowl from one of the best teams ever assemble.  Thats it no records, no new styles of opperation, just a ball on top of his stupid head.  He should of caught it in mouth that way he would kept it closed or maybe even sopported it.  SHUT THE F#@! UP HISTORY GUY. <br />

If your religion is Bible bases then why would you beleive in gay marriage. Adam & eve not Adam & Steve. There is a reason it takes a man and women to reproduce.

How many people do you know that have dated for 20 years, Marriage is a commitment, of course there are a few people out there who have dated a long time but marriage is a part of almost every culture in the world and has been for thousands of years.

it's a modern-day equivalent of a rain-dance, a pointless, egotistical ritual tradition that somehow legalizes an abstract feeling between two people (LOVE) so they can achieve certain economic benefits. I'm sure it has some religeios meaning for some these days.

You do realize that most of the people in our county celebrate one religion or another that belives in Marriage. I guess out country has been doing it wrong hundreds of years and the world has had it wrong for thousands of years. Just because no one wants to commit to you doesnt mean its pointless.

I got no problem with Gay people or them choosing to live together or them getting benefits liek a married couple but I do not beleive a child should be raised by 2 of the same sex couple or that it should be called marriage at all. Marriage is and always has been between man & women.

if you do not like my point of view then blame JESUS.

And by the way, marriage isn't even an "institution" like slavery was. It's the modern-day equivalent of a rain-dance, a pointless, egotistical ritual tradition that somehow legalizes an abstract feeling between two people (LOVE) so they can achieve certain economic benefits. I'm sure it has some religious meaning for some these days, and by all means relish in that, but in reality, if you need to spend thousands to celebrate some sort of legal, binding contract between you, God, lawyers, and the State to stay faithful to your partner (which fails 50 percent of the time anyway), then you probably shouldn't be in a relationship to begin. There is literally no difference between a couple who has been dating for 20 years and a couple who has been married 20 years, other than personal, spiritual connection if so recognized. And those connections are PERSONAL. Not subject to law. If two dudes want to have that same personal connection, it's equally stupid, but they have every right as American citizens.

What a fool. The enslavement of blacks was a legal institution for thousands of years also, not founded in our country, and the exploitation of Tyree's ancestors resulted in the foundation of this very rich nation he now lives and thrives in. But all of a sudden a minority, an influential minority (abolitionists), worked tirelessly to end such a heinous institution. I can't stand these self-righteous hypocrites. Liberty and justice for all, as the Constitution states. Gays getting married has no effect upon your life unless you allow it to by being an over-sensitive, moralist douche. Put your Bibles down for a second and let people live the way they want if they aren't hurting anyone else, you fascists.
