Big Ben backs Plax return to Steelers

On Tuesday, my colleague Ryan Wilson wondered whether or not Plaxico Burress could end up back with his original team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. As Ryan noted, there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the possibility.

Apparently not one of them, though: Ben Roethlisberger's support. That's because Ben apparently is down with bringing Plax back to Pittsburgh.

"I've talked to Plax a number of times in the last couple of weeks," Roethlisberger said, per Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I told him, 'Hey, if you came back here that would be awesome, but I'm just happy to see you playing again' because he's a good guy."

As Wilson pointed out, there are a number of problems with bringing Burress back to Pittsburgh. Namely, are there even enough footballs to go around in order to find out if Plaxico's still got it after 20 months in the hole?

Right now, the Steelers are staring at a wide receiver corps that features Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. (Presumably, Antwaan Randle El would be the casualty of a Burress signing.)

But maybe -- as we've noted in previous discussions tying Plax to Philly -- that's the best possible situation for the former first-rounder. After all, if he can step in as a big end-zone target, he'll only help to diversify an already stout group of wideouts.

And as far as public relations go, well, it's not as if dealing with off-field issues would be something new for the 2011 Steelers either.

We are the bears shuffling crew.....remember '85? Sure it was a long time ago, though I guess you don't count your early SuperBowl wins either.

I'll take you up on the first issue and thanks for pointing that out to me.

Not once did I call Chevy a scum bag, or a tool or question his morals or imply he was on steroids.  Yet you did and I guess that makes it a little personal.  I can see from those comments that you do not have much personal integrity and are probably not worth the time to even write to...but what the hell....  I see you have a reputation level of 98 so you obviously are probably unemployed and spent your meaningless days and nights chatting on sports lines like this or enticing some 14 year girl to meet you at the mall.  I have no doubt that you try to hit up any scag you can find at the nearest tavern closest to the unemployment office where you picked up your latest dole check.

I also see from your icon being a redskins fan implies (as you implied a person is 200% guilty taking a suspension) you are a DC dweeb.  Hey, I got an idea, how about chatting with Rep Weiner, you and he can play butt pirate! dirty scallawag!!

Thanks for letting me exercise the first right you explained to me about no having to shut up.  I feel so much better.

And now back to sports about those Steelers chances in 2011-2012?

I find it more troubling people think the Rooneys would be okay with bring a felon...that is what he is according to the idiotic laws of NY...back into the fold for another shot at a title.

It has nothing to do with ben and his stupidity but rather the fact the family has stood fast in the name of integrity yet shows holes in recent years in allowing exceptions to their history.

Why would the Steelers sacrifice more of their prestige for an over the hill WR who has done nothing but watch tv for over two NFL seasons. He was a good reciever but never a consistant All Star in his twenties, why is it thought that he could do anything to help the Steelers? It is a question I ould like to see answered because, to me, he may be worth 40-50 catches(in a full season) with a few TDs but I doubt he will improve the corp group in Pitt.

Ward, year 15 is still a stud.
Randle El, not a factor.
Wallace is what Burress was several years ago with more upside.
Sweed is a bust.
Sanders showed he can play the last month last year.
Brown showed a bit of flair.

there is plenty of talent in the FA pool, and younger to boot.

I dont get the desire to have someone come in without football speed in this short season. Go for it if you need to, its one less goofball the Skins can look away from.

Your reasoning is limp.

First, no one has to shut up if they do not feel inlcined to do so.
Second, most people do not make millions of dollars as entertainers so mistakes are going to be blown out of proportion so you are talking apples to oranges.
Third, a scum bag is a scum bag, covering his ass because you are a fan of his or his team does not give you more credibility than Chevy. If his morals are higher than yours, shame on you.
Fourth, If you side with Ben because he was stupid even though all of us know he had a trend of being a tool with women, makes you a tool. Being convicted and showing guilt are the same thing, when the league suspended him and he was more than happy to oblige without a fight, it admitted guilt beyond the justice system. If you cant see that, you are blinders on roids.

If you were perfect and a virgin to most things in life and never had made mistake in your life, then you could continue to drag and drag and drag this "scumbag" issue on and on and on.   People make mistakes, big ones, but after awhile, either forgive or shut the f_ck up!

Plax's had a gun and shot himself.  Absolutely stupid, but did he rob a bank, did he kill somebody, did he rape your daughter or kidnap your child?  NO, so ease up.

Was Big Ben stupid, absolutely.  Is he guilty?  We may never know.  Was he convicted...NO

If there's enough footballs to go around on the Jets, there's certainly enough on the Steelers. Wallace is an up-and-coming deep threat, but Hines Ward is definitely past his prime, the other guys don't have much of a track record. They could definitely use Plax if he can shake off the rust.
