Injuries to NFL players have been almost an afterthought this offseason, mainly because of the lockout. They've existed only in the sense that if a big-name player is injured while working out, it might become a serious issue.

Well, a big-time player was injured: Terrell Owens will reportedly miss at least six months after undergoing ACL surgery.

That's according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, who reports that Owens injured his knee "during a personal workout" though the "cause of [the] injury [is] unknown."

Dr. James Andrews, perhaps the most famous knee specialist in sports, performed the surgery.

Bengals Offseason

Owens, who signed a one-year deal with the Bengals before last year, was surprisingly productive in Cincinnati alongside Chad Ochocinco, but the team's offense struggled and Owens, always a controversial figure, was locked into not returning to Cincy next year. (You can tell this because he's publicly ripped into the coaching staff.)

Given that Owens will turn 38 this year, it stands to reason that he won't play in all of 2011, if he's going to miss six months. And, it's entirely possible that Owens could end up retiring.

Though given his incredible track record for production as he aged, as well as his propensity to stay in the spotlight, assuming that seems a bit premature at this stage.

Either way, don't expect to see a ton of "Where will T.O. sign this year?" stories any time soon.
