Talk of a Favre return already fired back up

Brett Favre is done with football forever. Having heard him say that over and over this offseason, we think we might maybe know that.

And then the venerable Gil Brandt, in a chat on NFL.com, goes and ruins everything by pointing out that he thinks Favre could end up coming back in 2011.

"I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning," Brandt wrote Tuesday. "But I don't see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter."

That's primarily because there are too many quarterbacks with a) less drama and b) less mileage out on the market for the teams in need for a quarterback.

If you're a team like oh, say, the Vikings and you want to bring in a veteran to push and mentor Christian Ponder, the last person you want is Favre. Not only has he shown that he's typically unwilling to take a role as a backup, but there's plenty of unwanted drama that comes with No. 4.

In the end, even though we'll still be forced to mention Favre rumors for the rest of the offseason, that'll probably be the case with every team around the NFL, barring some unforeseen circumstances.

If he was put in the right system with good protection, a great RB and a strict playbook he could still be very productive. I could see him doing alright in San Fran with a decent opportunity for a playoff run.

Brinson and Brandt just showed us how to effectively start a story with absolutely no backing.  Start by bringing up a dead point on a "chat" and then watch as another website references this chat as a source.  Jump over to another sports media site and you will then the label "Multiple sources report the possibility of Brett Favre returning from retirement".  Let this rotate around for a day or two and then start projecting which teams are interested in Favre's services; there really isn't any work, just take one of the "most affected by the lockout" articles since all of those teams have a rookie quarterback or no starting quarterback which is often paired with a new coaching staff.

You sport writers really need to find a different word besides drama...grow up guys and talk football. The only thing I want to hear about Farve is if he shot a record breaking buck or that hes going to be a new sprts anouncer. You guys kinda killed that though smearing his name year after year...shame.

Favre was a great quarterback and an incredible competitor, but its time for him to hang it up for good and get on with the rest of his life

I hate Favre.  He has lost more games for his teams than he has won. Thats what happens when you try to be 'the man' and dont care about your team.

8-5, 9-7, 9-7, 11-5, 13-3, 13-3, 11-5, 8-8, 9-7, 12-4, 12-4, 10-6, 10-6, 4-12, 8-8, 13-3, 9-7, 12-4, 5-8,

so thats 19 seasons as the starter, only 2 of them had losing records, pull your head out of your a$$ and quit making yourself look dumb

Bret Favre was probably the toughest and most durable QB to ever play in the NFL. You cant take that away from him. And honestly...I cant think of another QB that loved and played the game with the most passion. Who? Manning comes to mind....but he is a crybaby. And his dad sucked. No one else in the history of the NFL did a QB do more for his team than him. His reliability, his knowledge of the game, and the competitor in him is like no other period. Drew Brees if healthy and is able to compete for 18 yrs might come close.
