Talk of a Favre return already fired back up

Brett Favre is done with football forever. Having heard him say that over and over this offseason, we think we might maybe know that.

And then the venerable Gil Brandt, in a chat on NFL.com, goes and ruins everything by pointing out that he thinks Favre could end up coming back in 2011.

"I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning," Brandt wrote Tuesday. "But I don't see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter."

That's primarily because there are too many quarterbacks with a) less drama and b) less mileage out on the market for the teams in need for a quarterback.

If you're a team like oh, say, the Vikings and you want to bring in a veteran to push and mentor Christian Ponder, the last person you want is Favre. Not only has he shown that he's typically unwilling to take a role as a backup, but there's plenty of unwanted drama that comes with No. 4.

In the end, even though we'll still be forced to mention Favre rumors for the rest of the offseason, that'll probably be the case with every team around the NFL, barring some unforeseen circumstances.

Has something changed.... had Favre all of sudden become a mentor.  Great Player, Great Heart, but it's time to keep the cleats in the closet.  I don't picture Farve on a headset standing on the sidelines telling the starting QB to be patient... go thru your checks.... throw it away if you have too!!!! I hear ....Coach, put me in, I'll win this game for you

Actually, Favre is a terrible mentor.  While in Green Bay he and Aaron Rogers barely spoke and Rogers got absolutely no help from him.  And ask the Vikings how much mentoring Favre did for Tavaris Jackson.  The reality is that he wants to be the starter, period.  Which is why he should stay retired.  Elder statesman is not in his DNA.

False.  Last pass as a Viking was incomplete.  Learn sports.  He is a legend.  Compare his td:int ratio to most anyone it will be better.

Brett should come back but definatly not as a starter but more of a mentor as a number 3 guy. You may hate him but the guy does have skills and can teach a lot to a rookie coming into the league. So many teams draft rookies and throw them in as a stater and they flop. What rookie out there would not want to learn from Favre. Love him Hate him the guy is good and knows what to do and can be a great mentor.

Geez, Brett in order to play you have to participate in offseason training, practice, ALL of mini-camp, preseason et al. You are a probowl NFL QB, but . . . please Practice and Play or Retire and go away!

This crap with Favre is getting old.....This guy needs to stay retiered..I think its BS that the NFL is even allowing this to happen over and over and over and over well you get what i'm saying....I think if a player says publicly he is retiering then the NFL should enforce it and make it to where he can't play the next up coming season......All favre wants to do is make the headlines hey Favre wear the number 85 and change your name to Chad....Or better yet join the WWE you can be he show stoper there...Here i think alot of fans are getting iered of this i quit no i don't crap.

I blame the media for even covering this ridiculous story. This guy craves attention and as long as the media cover this as a big story he's getting it. If the vikings want to sign this one time icon, who is going to hang along long enough to now be remembered as much for his anthony wiener behavior, and his sick need to stay in the spotlight. I used to because huge fan of favre, now I think he's just a pathetic old athlete afraid to move on and leave that spotlight for someone else.

BRETT FAVRE IS THE MAN!

I WAS HOPING SOMEBODY WOULD WRITE ABOUT BRETT FAVRE.  THE VIKINGS WOULD DO THEMSELVES A HUGE FAVOR IF THEY BROUGHT THIS MAN BACK FOR ANOTHER YEAR.  ALL YOU FAVRE BASHERS ARE JEALOUS OF A GREAT QUARTERBACK.  DAN MARINO WAS A GREAT QUARTERBACK BUT NEVER WON THE BIG ONE.  FAVRE DID WIN THE BIG ONE!  THE N.F.L. IS A BETTER AND MORE FUN OF A LEAGUE WITH BRETT FAVRE IN IT!
