Talk of a Favre return already fired back up

Brett Favre is done with football forever. Having heard him say that over and over this offseason, we think we might maybe know that.

And then the venerable Gil Brandt, in a chat on NFL.com, goes and ruins everything by pointing out that he thinks Favre could end up coming back in 2011.

"I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning," Brandt wrote Tuesday. "But I don't see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter."

That's primarily because there are too many quarterbacks with a) less drama and b) less mileage out on the market for the teams in need for a quarterback.

If you're a team like oh, say, the Vikings and you want to bring in a veteran to push and mentor Christian Ponder, the last person you want is Favre. Not only has he shown that he's typically unwilling to take a role as a backup, but there's plenty of unwanted drama that comes with No. 4.

In the end, even though we'll still be forced to mention Favre rumors for the rest of the offseason, that'll probably be the case with every team around the NFL, barring some unforeseen circumstances.

Look, the guy was a great player. Brought talent and enthusiasm to the game that few have matched. But he was terrible 2 of the last 3 years he played.  He was slow, he was indecisive, and his accuracy was awful. He got the hell beat out of him. He can't play at even a reasonable level anymore. His time is over. Stay is Mississippi; enjoy fishing and hunting on your ranch.

Unfortunately for NFL fans, when NHL'ers can play past the age of 40 and win Stanley Cups a person with the ego Favre has thinks they can play football as well. There is no question that Favre still has a fastball and given that almost every team needs two starting qb's in today's NFL there is no doubt in my mind that as some point during the season Favre will be contacted by a team who lost their opening day starter (can any one say the Lions?) for a couple of weeks or longer. Can you imagine Favre playing with that defense at Ford Field? He'd only have to get around 17 points a game to win more than he loses. He usually doesn't string two horrible seasons together and if he comes in half way through, I hate to say this being a Packer fan but I seriously doubt if we've seen the end of one Brett Favre.

Farve is done, stick a fork in his old azz, done, done done.  Gil Brandt is smoking something good to report that.  Farve took a beating last year, his stats sucked and his starts streak ended.  He has nothing to play for.

leave it CBS to hire some crackpot to write fictional sports stories to TRY to generate a buzz...Newsflash - the buzz for Favre has faded and noone cares. We are all very happy that he is sticking to his word on a final retirement. Why are you guys trying so hard ? give it up.. Brett did.

So I hope this drama Queen Does stay away from football because it is hard to see one of the best QB play like he did last year and 2008 years
You mean in 2008 when the Jets had a 7-3 record before Brett got hurt and he still made the Pro Bowl? Last year was the worst year in his career and i would still take him over half the quarterbacks in the league. But this is stupid because Favre is retired and plans to stay that way....

Let's see. Favre retired from the Packers.  He retired from the Jets. And he retired from the Vikings.  That leaves 29 other teams that he can play for this season before retiring again.
