Talk radio's a weird thing -- often it's the non-policed Wild West of sports that many folks dreamed blogs would become/were back in the day. People can say things that are bizarre, inflammatory and flat-out offensive and get away with it completely at times.

Or they can get caught. Like DeSean Jackson who recently appeared on the "All Out Rude Show with Rude Jude and Lord Sear" on Sirius XM 45 and used the six-letter f-word in response to a caller asking Jackson something about getting hit hard in a game.

We're not going to post the YouTube and/or use the words he actually says in the post because this is still a family site and stuff.

But you can listen to what he says -- NSFW language obviously applies -- over at Deadspin.

It's kind of a similar situation to what happened to Kobe Bryant and Joakim Noah, albeit without the "heat of the battle" built-in excuse to ostensibly bail them out from some of the criticism.

Eagles Offseason

Jackson hasn't necessarily "defended" himself, but Jack Hickey of Deadspin notes that "Rude Jude" emailed the site to offer a defense for Jackson, saying that the Eagles wide receiver "is a hood dude" and for "hood cats, the worst thing you can do is [use the word he used]. I don't think he's homophobic. He's joking."

That may have been the case, but on Saturday, Jackson issued an apology via his PR reps.

"In a recent radio interview a caller got really confrontational with me," Jackson said. "I got very heated with the caller, took it a bit too far and did not mean to offend anybody. I meant no disrespect and a better choice of words was needed."

Earlier this week, Jackson himself tweeted some, um, motivational stuff.

"WANNA BRING ME DOWN BUT IM OK!! THEY TRYIN KNOCC ME OFF BUT IM STILL ON!!" Jackson tweeted.

"THEY LOOKN 2 TAKE YA DOWN AT ALL TIMES NO MATTER HOW POSITIVE AND WHAT U DO!! ITS ALWAYS AWAY THEY TRY TO GET YA.... IM STANDIN TALL," he followed up with shortly thereafter.

Look, there's no excuse -- being in competition or being on talk radio -- for using that kind of language in a hateful way.

Though plenty of people believe that the six-letter f-bomb is not an offensive word in certain circumstances, that's not their call to make.

The folks that it is originally intended to offend still take offense when people use it. And as such, there's no reason why Jackson needs to be on the air lobbing that language out.

@ D train

Please explain in detail the harm these words do....

I do not condone them, nor use such language. But all these bleeding heart libs on here keeping running their mouths with platitudes and anecdotes about some poor teenager who is opressed by DeSean and Kobe's mouth....

Tell them to go to an Islamic country and see how great they feel... If the "poor confused teenager" referred to even exists....

Typically when I was a teenager I didnt care what anybody said against what i was doing, whether it be called a freak for having a mohawk, or dreadlocks or wearing ridiculously baggy pants, or listening to Gangsta Rap, or punk rock, or hardcore metal, or having a black girlfriend...

Like I said i do not condone using such language, nor do I use such language, but let's just call it what it is... A politically driven media gluttony, they want to push P.C. while selling some papers and getting some internet hits.....

I have yet to see a homosexual chime in on how offended DeSean made them feel..... Just a bunch of self righteous egg heads, who think they are more enlightend than the rest of us, calling us homophobes and pushing their beliefs on everyone...

Why apologize... especially one with a lie? Listen to the clip. He didn't get "very heated", it was playful banter and he was obviously joking. Saying NH, and then dropping a couple quick slurs to end the call was non-offensive. The writer of this article says that it's not his call to make, I say BS. Just as it's your freedom to imply that DeSean said it in a hateful way, it's his right to say it wasn't hateful. As long as one is willing to take the consquences, he shouldn't be banned from using whatever language he wants. Sad day again for sports where the pressure to take back something we all know DeSean doesn't mean is an insult to the average person. Think this will be the last time he dropped a Diet F-Bomb? No way. DeSean should be free to be DeSean and if the world can't take it, then too bad.

I'm so tired of people making a big deal over certain words, especially when they come from someone as ignorant as Jackson.  People can say what ever they want to, it's called freedom of speech and I myself don't see anything wrong with it.  I use any word I want, anywhere I want, and that's my right as a American, but then again I'm not famous or in the public eye.  Like I say all the time, if Jackson just said something about the guy being fat no one would have cared.  You can say anything about a guy being fat and out of shape and it's no big deal, that's because this world is full of hypocrite's just like all the low lifes that hero worship that dog killing scum bag.

Who freakin cares.  The F word and other gay slurs have been part of our vocabulary forever and usually is aimed at some idiot, rather than Gays specifically.
