Hester wants Bears to sign Santana Moss

For as amazing as Devin Hester's been as a returner during his career with the Bears, he's never quite worked out as a receiver. He's had his moments, of course, but it's usually been a lack of a decent quarterback or another receiver on the field that's kept him from maxing his big-play potential.

Which is probably why he wants the Bears to go out and sign Santana Moss once free agency starts up.

"Anybody that can come in and help out the team, I’m down for it, and a guy like [Moss] can come in and really help out a lot," Hester said, per the Chicago Tribune. "I’m hoping we can get him."

That might seem simple -- "Hey, Bears, go spend money!" -- but it could be a little tougher to pry Moss away from the Redskins.

See, even though he's a free agent, he has stated that he'd like to come back to Washington, although his reasoning seems predicated on his preference to not negotiate a contract.

If he's willing to be swayed, though, certainly Chicago offers a better situation: Hester (a fellow former Miami Hurricane) on the other side will force teams to play off him more than anyone in Washington, and Jay Cutler's far better than the three-headed monster that is Donovan McNabb/Rex Grossman/John Beck.

But, hey, to each his own -- if Moss really wants to hang around and kick it with the Shanahans, more power to him.

Hester wants Bears to sign Santana Moss

Bears have Jay Cutler.  No receiver will help the Bears until they get a QB with a tougher mentality....

The issue for the Bears receiving corps is the type of offense they run...they have to have receivers that run good routes and get to the spot on the field where Cutler will be expected to put the ball.  Recevers who read and adjust their routes on the fly do not work in the Martz system.  Now that said, I do not know whether Moss fits that bill but I KNOW Plaxico doesn't, which is why the Bears won't sign him.

Adding Carimi will be a big boost to the O-Line and since the Bears only have 54 guys on the Roster right now, they will need to pick up quite a few O-Lineman from FA anyway, so I think they will be fine, considering how well they played in the second half of last year.  I think it's going to be a serious 3 horse race in the North this year.

I will agree that they need a big body WR like Rice and to take him away from a division rival would be even better! I think Rice fits the Bears and scheme.

I didn't know Da Bears and the 'Skins were in the same devision?!?
Just messing wit ya!

Cutler was not a free agent, they traded two first rounders a third and Kyle Orton for Cutler and the pick that netted us J. Knox. I will agree that they need a big body WR like Rice and to take him away from a division rival would be even better! I think Rice fits the Bears and scheme better than Plax while being younger and productive most recently.

I am worried most about getting the O-Line situated mostly though because of the division we play in with beasts all over from Detroit, GB and Minny, the signing of Kreutz or his replacement can determine the season in a hurry. I know we drafted Carimi and pair him with Williams and shift Webb to guard and have Garza who played center with ATL before joining the Bears, I guess can Lance Louis or Herman Johnson step up and play guard at a consistent level and can Garza re-adapt to center? Wow good luck jerk face Jay!

Bears have got the number one free agent out there these last couple years, (Cutler, Peppers), seems to good to be true that we would have another year landing a huge name for our receiver pool, but it sure would be nice.

Good call. While in 99% of the cases players are better off saying things like "Well I really want to test the open market," in DC they're better kissing up to Dannyboy's wallet...and to the guy's credit, Snyder usually comes through. I could see Santana Moss fitting into the Bears system much better than any of the other big names out there (except Santonio Holmes who's almost for sure going to stay a Jet).

Should be an interesting few weeks of free agency...provided this labor deal goes through.

Santana Moss knows how to play the money game with Daniel Snyder. Just like his former partner in crime, Clinton Portis, Moss knows as long as he sucks up to 'Mr. Snyder' - Snyder will overpay. If the Bears and Redskins should offer equal money you can almost bet Santana's next stop would be Halas Hall.
