Vikings punter calls 4 named plaintiffs greedy

This morning we noted that, as two of the 10 plaintiffs in the Brady v. the NFL case, Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins could each ask for $10 million in compensation. At the time, the thinking was that the other plaintiffs wouldn't seek similarly high payouts because they either weren't in position to (free agents, already under contract, retired, etc.) or, as elite quarterbacks, already had all the leverage they needed.

Turns out, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are also looking for settlements of their own. CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman writes that "Multiple sources say that Manning, one of the named plaintiffs, wants immediate free agency in order to settle the lawsuit. Those sources also say Brees wants to be a free agent next year. The sources say lawyers for the NFLPA have asked NFL owners for those two things in addition to the reported demands from Mankins and Jackson."

So, yeah, tying a nice little bow on a new collective bargaining agreement doesn't seem as close as it did just a few hours ago. That said, Freeman is confident a deal will get done this week.

So while all hope isn't lost, Viking punter Chris Kluwe is wholly unimpressed with the news that four of the 10 named plaintiffs (who, by the way, are supposed to be representing the other 1,896 NFL players) appear to be cutting their own deals. So, naturally, Kluwe took to Twitter to voice his displeasure.

That doesn't leave much room for interpretation. The problem, of course, is that, as Freeman pointed out this morning, a new CBA can't be agreed upon unless all the plaintiffs settle the case.

That's much easier when some of them aren't looking out just for themselves.

Vikings punter calls 4 named plaintiffs greedy

It's great to have a football player that speaks for most of the foot ball player, not just the greedy one. Lets help all the player and the retired ones.

Is whitecat really Vincent Jackson? The misspelled words the bad grammar, come on Vincent...we know it's you...no one else is dumb enough to argue that point and be on your greedy side.

Punters are a dime a dozen, and this punter does not understand that real players diserve the big boy money. The players in the lawsuit are in their positions because they are actually talented men who are game changers and diserve the big dollars.  They are not lame duck kickers who sit around all day playing an MMORPG like World of Warcraft. At least play a good MMORPG like EverQuest 2. I might respect your intelligence a little more if you did that Chris.

what is an MMORPG and what does it have to do with whether a guy is a kicker or not???  THese guys are greedy...  Did we not already know this?  The NFL players that you hold as your hero could care less about you.  He just wants you to keep buying his jersey and going to games so that he can continue to demand garbage like this.  You guys created this problem that you are now complaining about.

The Big Bird look a like and his side part Sir Shit on my face want more money imagine that. I would take the money that the damn punter makes per year and be more then happy. Maybe we shouldn't have a season and maybe Manning and Brees shouldn't get paid at all. Let them go play in Canada at this point. $23 mil a year and you want more like you're the only player on your team. Last time i checked they only had 1 ring each. That doesn't put you in the category of top QB's of all time. Yeah i know Big Bird is a stat freak but one stat i do remember is his first year 3-13. I guess its not about the love of the game anymore so i don't want to hear that shit again

HA! AWESOME. Way to call out a few guys for exactly what they are. finally a player has some balls to do something that all fans should be thinking now. There is no reason for Brees and Manning to ask for this other than it being a whiny attempt at salvaging the last "victory" they can get. At least one guy in the league isn't so full of himself to think that they (players) are the most valuable thing on the planet.

Bravo, Chris Kluwe. All along I thought it would be the NFLPA's attorneys that would sink the ship for everyone. I was looking at the right side of the fence but the wrong parties. It turns out the plaintiffs in that pesky lawsuit we kept brushing off will do the sinking. And now that the Union is clearly cracking (see: Mankins, Brees, Jackson and Manning being rightfully called douchebags by another player), will the owners seize the chance to drive a wedge and cripple the Union for good? Maybe. I know that a few hundred million lost in preseason revenue would be dwarfed by a fatter revenue split and a broken union. It likely won't happen, but it could.

You gotta respect a punter with guts, calling out other players who make more in a year than he will in his career.  That's integrity.  Thank you Chris Kluwe for saying what every fan is thinking.  It's nice to know that SOMEONE is thinking clearly about any of this.

It's amazing how quickly some players will squander a wealth of goodwill.  I never cared about Mankins or Jackson, but I highly respected Brees and Manning.  Not anymore.  I wish they would just shut up, sign up, and suit up, but they just won't do it.  I'm totally done with the multimilliionaire crybabies on BOTH sides of the table.
