Vikings punter calls 4 named plaintiffs greedy

This morning we noted that, as two of the 10 plaintiffs in the Brady v. the NFL case, Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins could each ask for $10 million in compensation. At the time, the thinking was that the other plaintiffs wouldn't seek similarly high payouts because they either weren't in position to (free agents, already under contract, retired, etc.) or, as elite quarterbacks, already had all the leverage they needed.

Turns out, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are also looking for settlements of their own. CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman writes that "Multiple sources say that Manning, one of the named plaintiffs, wants immediate free agency in order to settle the lawsuit. Those sources also say Brees wants to be a free agent next year. The sources say lawyers for the NFLPA have asked NFL owners for those two things in addition to the reported demands from Mankins and Jackson."

So, yeah, tying a nice little bow on a new collective bargaining agreement doesn't seem as close as it did just a few hours ago. That said, Freeman is confident a deal will get done this week.

So while all hope isn't lost, Viking punter Chris Kluwe is wholly unimpressed with the news that four of the 10 named plaintiffs (who, by the way, are supposed to be representing the other 1,896 NFL players) appear to be cutting their own deals. So, naturally, Kluwe took to Twitter to voice his displeasure.

That doesn't leave much room for interpretation. The problem, of course, is that, as Freeman pointed out this morning, a new CBA can't be agreed upon unless all the plaintiffs settle the case.

That's much easier when some of them aren't looking out just for themselves.

Maybe then to neutralize the hit their meg-salaries will have against the new salary cap, the Quarterbacks could take over the duties of punting and place kicking.  Think of the added advantage to have them on the field in those situations.  With more money comes more responsibility....time to man up QBs

At least Kluwe has the gusto to say what I'm sure a ton of other players are thinking as well. There are more "role players" than superstars in the league, and these guys that are the plaintiffs in this case really look bad now. Everyone knew that Mankins and Jackson were a couple of mercs, but Manning and Brees? Craziness. Way to stick up for the rest of your fellow players, guys.

Cash In

Brees, manning and brady need to hold out till they get the most money they can from the greedy owners.  Once the deal is signed, they have no bargaining power.

Most often when you hear a punter speak you kinda chuckle.  When It's your own punter you get nervous.  Not this time, because he has a very good reason to make a beef!  If the heavy weights are looking to become free agents, the second tier of players better speak there minds right now!  I would really hate to see the "bigs" sell out.  We saw at the end of last year, ALL players walking on the field in support of the situation.  This includes the punters, kickers, and other special teamers, who are counting on the "bigger" voices to make things right for them.  Gotta keep the team spirit in this one guys!  Get it done!

As for the Vigking's punter, it seems to me that he is more jealous of the money and fame associated with these players. As for Manning, I have followed his career enthusiastically since he was in college. He is a very smart and talented individual. It seems so out of character for him to be greedy and I for one am shocked. If it is true, and I don't trust the media and what they present on paper or on the tube as being totally and correctly representative of the truth, I will lose a lot of faith and respect for Manning and somewhat Brees. The others I could see already as being greed mongers. I really hope it not true about Manning otherwise I may be looking for a new favorite player.

On their rise to fame and fortune, Brees and Manning forgot they ride a lot of good sentiment from fans. Manning- you have won 1 superbowl and managed to NEVER win a meaningful game IN New England. Brees- you won 1 Superbowl and manage to lose to the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs last year.....

Good going #douchebags!
