Smith to players: 'There is no agreement'

There was much rejoicing in the land of NFL fans on Thursday night when the NFL owners voted 31-0 to ratify a settlement agreement. There's just one problem: it's not exactly in-line with what the players were expecting.

CBSSSports.com has obtained an email from NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith to the players a few moments ago that indicates precisely how they feel.

"As you know the Owners have ratified their proposal to settle our differences. It is my understanding that they are forwarding it to us," the email reads. "As you may have heard, they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions.

Latest on Lockout

"As you know from yesterday, issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open, other issues such as workers compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms remain unresolved.

Smith's email concludes in a fashion that should sufficiently point out how differently the players view the owners' proposal.

"There is no agreement between the NFL and the Players at this time," Smith concludes. "I look forward to our call tonight."

The biggest fear for everyone involved is that the players might see the owners' decision to approve their own deal as a way of pushing public perception against the players. And that's entirely possible, but we won't know for sure until the end of the NFLPA call.

One thing's for sure, though: this isn't over yet.

ROBOT FIGHTER ... if you chose to not report to work ... would you keep your job .. if your answer is "you feel as if you're treated unfairly and that is why you chose not to report for work" .. then are you not on strike??? ... how can you defend the players at all with what they get paid .... ???? .... face the facts ... Smith is a thug ... leading a bunch of other thugs ... no other way for someone from this earth to put it ...

Players Rights

De Smith represents the players, not the rich owners.  He needs to hold out until he gets the best possible deal.  Once the deal is signed, the players have no bargaining power.

Smith to players: 'There is no agreement'

This is going to make the players look really bad if the players turn this down. The owners have gone so far as to submit a proposal that they are in agreement on and Smith (who I believe has been a HUGE obsticle throughout this process) throws another wrench in the works. This is getting completely rediculous and the fans want something done soon. We, who pay for ALL OF THIS, want football on Sundays and something to look forward to this fall. Stop being a bunch of overgrown babies and get this settled!

This is a real gut shot to anyone who is a fan of The National Football League. Logan Mankins has even said that he would sign on to. So much to the owners credit they passed a deal that is very encompassing to player safety, retirement benefits, revenue sharing, and the plethora of issues under the Collective Bargaining Agreement rainbow. However, DeMaurice Smith just wants more and more. The Owners are the ones who own these football franchises, DeMaurice Smith wants the players to make more money than the owners. The same owners who have to give the players an amazing amount of money to play a game that they "supposedly" love. If the players keep pressing. I would balk at their commands, and get some replacement players that the fans of football can root for. Mike Freeman wrote a column in the past week or so I believe saying that Demaurice Smith would be the key to this whole thing. Yes, he will be the key. The key that makes the owners and players not be able to come to a deal.

If I were the players. One of the things I would want ratified in the agreement is if a new CBA has to be done in the future. That the players get better representation. As I already pointed out about what Logan Mankins said. The players don't need to be held hostage by their own representation in these procedures.

Smith to players: 'There is no agreement'

Dear Mr. Smith,

As you are probably aware, this situation has made you a widely know public figure, famous if you will.  However, if you weren't already, this stunt has now also made you one of the most hated people in the football world.

If you don't get this thing done tonight, you will have to move to some third world country if you hope to enjoy any kind of public existence again.  If you stay here in America, I can all but guarantee you will get sworn at, booed at, flipped off, or worse almost every time you go out to eat, go for a walk, go to a movie, or go shopping.

You really better hope that you enjoy life in that big old mansion you are making for yourself, because you will come to detest life outside of it.

Signed,
MajorPackerFootballFan

Smith to players: 'There is no agreement'

The NFL Fans are tired of everything about the lockout. We all want football to start ASAP and as of right now, the players are standing in the way of that. No matter the reasons or excuses, the players are going to take a black eye if they don't vote and approve this by the end of tomorrow.
