Smith to players: 'There is no agreement'

There was much rejoicing in the land of NFL fans on Thursday night when the NFL owners voted 31-0 to ratify a settlement agreement. There's just one problem: it's not exactly in-line with what the players were expecting.

CBSSSports.com has obtained an email from NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith to the players a few moments ago that indicates precisely how they feel.

"As you know the Owners have ratified their proposal to settle our differences. It is my understanding that they are forwarding it to us," the email reads. "As you may have heard, they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions.

Latest on Lockout

"As you know from yesterday, issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open, other issues such as workers compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms remain unresolved.

Smith's email concludes in a fashion that should sufficiently point out how differently the players view the owners' proposal.

"There is no agreement between the NFL and the Players at this time," Smith concludes. "I look forward to our call tonight."

The biggest fear for everyone involved is that the players might see the owners' decision to approve their own deal as a way of pushing public perception against the players. And that's entirely possible, but we won't know for sure until the end of the NFLPA call.

One thing's for sure, though: this isn't over yet.

right ... it is a strike .. a strike by a bunch of thugs that don't  have a union with which to allign themselves ... get rid of the troublemakers by firing their sorry asses if they do not show up for work ... same as in the real world .. what did we expect when a gansgter / thug like Smith was put into an important role ... Thugs ... fire them .. look owners .. the fans are speaking ... fire these guys!!!!

TOM ... good post ... one thing different .. let the players that want to show up keep their job .. those that don't show up fine .. fire them .. never to be allowed to collect a paycheck again from the NFL .... its not as if the players are treated or paid unfairly ... Smith and his merry band of hooligans and thugs are selfish and pretty much useless ... on with the season with those that wish to play ... let a good number of the others enjoy being unemployed ... and a good many of those that choose unemplyment enjoy being arrested for thuggery that is far to common amongst them ..

So that means this is now a strike and not a lockout right?

if the players dont accept the deal then i say the owners should just go with scabs all year. F' em. they get paid too much as it is. bunch of spoiled babies. fantasy leagues already in existance can just re-draft with a bunch of no namers.LOL. that would awesome.

Really beneficial to the players? How? By going back to the 2009 rules of the last CBA? Sure, better money for the older players. That really is long overdue. But to still have not only the franchise tag, but also the transition tag is very bad negotiating. So I guess the players in the next generation, might actually get a shot at REAL free agency. So I guess the last 4+ months were a waste of everybodies time.

well they are not a union, did not they decertify from being a union so what are the negotiating?
Now they will have to recertify as a union again. There should be a law against what the players did and
say once you decertify as a union you canno longer form back up as a union in the same business.

Good Comment Seminole ... Smith .. a thug himself .. leading a band of thugs .. the owners should wash their hands clean of any association with this ass ... the players have really shot themselves in the foot .. err Smith has ... by dissolving the union ... can the owners not now say to the players .. if you report to your team on time .. you have a job .. those that don't report no longer have jobs and are not able to be employed again in our league on  account of workplace contamination .... the owners are being held hostage by a group of thugs criminals and gangsters ... enough is enough ... time to put the players in their place ..

Smith.  What a piece of work.  I understand that it isn't a deal yet, but the details of this proposal from the owners looks really beneficial to the players.  I wouldn't have given them near what the owners have.  Suck it up and agree!
