You know, maybe Brett Favre's not the problem. Yes, he's made a mockery of the notion of a retirement press conference, and yes, he's brought a lot of this on himself by subsequent un-retirement press conferences. But when if finally seems as if he and his Wrangler jeans have moseyed off into the sunset, the media refuse to let him go.

The latest silliness: Howard Eskin of Philadelphia WIP, reported Saturday night that the "Eagles have some interest in Favre once they trade [Kevin] Kolb. Sources told me it's possible. Not sure what Favre thinks."

We don't know what Favre thinks either, but here's what he said last month about the prospects of returning to the NFL: “I don’t want to put my body through that anymore. I’ve been beat up enough.”

Favre has been known to say one thing and do another, but Favre's brother, Scott, has also weighed in on the matter, telling the Biloxi Sun Herald's Al Jones, "I would say there's less than a 1% chance (he would return). He is retired."

A few weeks ago, NFL.com's Gil Brandt, without speaking to Favre or anyone in Favre's camp, suggested that Favre still wants to play, in part because Favre offered to work with Cam Newton. (Yes, we're confused, too.)

We'll repeat what we said at the time: "We actually believe Favre when he said he's been beaten up enough. And if he gets a hankerin' for a comeback, we'd encourage him to watch these."

It's also worth pointing out that one of Eskin's sources told him in June that Ravens coach John Harbaugh didn't want the team to draft cornerback Jimmy Smith. To quote Peter King: "That story about John Harbaugh not wanting Jimmy Smith? Wrong. Totally wrong."

Just something to keep in mind here as well.

Report: Eagles have interest in Brett Favre (!)

Here we go with the media idiots, wanting to talk about Favre, coming back. I guess the reason with Philly, to make their ex-con feel younger, with a QB 10+ years older than the scumbag. But, the big question... Is there enough gerital in Philly for the both of them???

Stay on your tractor Brett, if you come back you'll be flattened time and time again.  I suppose you could carry the water for Vick!

Actually it makes sense.  1) the media can't leave Farve alone 2) if the Eagles stuipdly trade Kolb, who wiill run the team when Vick gets hurt?

Vick has been one of the healthiest qb's in the NFL the last 5 seasons he's played. Where you people get your info is beyond me, you must have some secret internet access that provides you with things the rest of us don't know.  Out of the 4 games Vick missed last year he was healthy enough to play in 3 of them, only really hurt for one game.  The year before he was only eligible to start 12 games and wasn't hurt at all.  In 2006 and in his last year before he went to jail he played in all 16 games.  In 2005 he played in 15 games.  In 2004 he played in 15 games.   In Michael Vick's last 5 seasons in the NFL as a starting qb he only missed 3 games combined.... hardly an injury risk.

Favre knows Holmgren and the west coast offense so there would be very little learning curve

Vick is guaranteed 16 million dollars next year, starter, backup, doesn't matter.  You're not going to convince Brett Favre to commit to anything for less then 10 or 12 million dollars, assuming of course he'll agree to spend 5 minutes on a team as a backup.  That's probably 28 million dollars for the quarterback position alone in Phili....  does that make any sense to you at all?

there are several million reasons for Favre to change his mind.

And Favre just might change his mind because there are probably a half dozen other teams desperate for a qb that would most likely overpay for old man Favre and guarantee him a starting qb position in the NFL.   But to think he'll pass up a chance to start in the NFL and instead back up Vick is semi retarded.  Vick is 10 times the qb Favre is right now and Favre knows it, why would he even consider a move like this ?

Eagles showing interest in Favre? If this is true, then the  Eagles management has clearly lost its collective mind. They must know Kurt Warner and Vinney Testaverde are available. Probably for less money and less risk.

Folks, the only reason why this is a story is cause Joe Banner and Jeff Lurie HATE IT when the other Philly sports teams (especially the Phillies) get more press.  They're not going to get Favre as the back-up.  I'd bet the house that this is just some BS story thrown out to the Philly media knowing that they would run wild with it and the whole thing would turn into this bigazz hoopla.  Hook, line, and sinker!

another moron. too many idiots in this city believe the trash you spew. "phillies phans" are the most unknowledgable in philly. its sad how big their "phan" base has become bc baseball is easy for clowns like this guy to follow.. whats better than drinking beer and occassionally glancing at the scoreboard and cheering late after a HR is hit? then ppl believe there is a conspiracy against the phillies?! cmon dude, get off your high horse.

also please note my use "ph" like all the "true phillie" fans do

It would not be a real offseason until media starts talkong about Farve comeback lol. He can com back as a coach but stay retired as a player. Enough with a comeback.
