Yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens drew a ton of attention by slashing prices cutting a slew of veterans including Derrick Mason and Todd Heap. Tuesday, it was the Cowboys turn, as reports started flying that Dallas had cut wide receiver Roy Wiliams, offensive linemen Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis, kicker Kris Brown and running back Marion Barber.

None of the cuts were that surprising, particularly Barber and Williams, who seemed like likely targets to be cut when colleague Ryan Wilson wrote about the very subject just a few weeks ago.

Williams (who, by the way, just got some bling back after the most notorious mailed-wedding-ring incident of the entire offseason) makes sense as a roster expense, particularly because now the Cowboys will simply start Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, both of whom are better than Williams anyway.

Cowboys Offseason
And Barber's become the least effective back in Dallas' stable; even though Barber had more carries than Tashard Choice last season (113 to 66), he still on managed a feeble 3.3 yards per carry and an unimpressive 28.8 yards per game. Additionally, he found the end zone just four times.

The combination of just Barber and Williams will save the Cowboys nearly $10 million in terms of salary cap number, and it's become pretty clear -- based on all these cuts -- that they are in fact players in the Nnamdi Asomugha market this offseason.

Whether or not they land the coveted cornerback, though, they've probably made a slew of good roster decisions anyway.

"At least Williams got the ring back. He definitely got the ring back."

And it will be the only ring he probably ever gets, see ya Roy!

If he wasn't overrated he was overpaid. He got starting RB money, and as many posters have pointed out, he's not an every-down back.

Jerry Jones gets waht he wants... really? Then why were Pittsburgh and Green Bay playing in his stadium in the Super Bowl?

Marion Barber over-rated? Not a chance... he was just in the wrong system (and definitely the wrong offesive line), with the Cowboys. I would take him any day of the week. I hope the Packers are paying attention... that guy could blow up the D-backs that would have to be on the field in Green Bay's 4 and 5 WR sets. Talk about fun to watch!

Go Packers!

Cutting Barber is a great move. He's been one of the most overrated backs in the entire NFL for years. Definitely one of the slowest RBs I ever saw.

I have been a Cowboys fan for many years and I never believed the hype of Barber being the running back of the future nor did I believe him to be an every down back either. The other players had numerous chances to be kept as a part of this team but they were unable to do so. The offensive live was just offensive and to clear out two older declining players is a good idea for the team. Williams is a good receiver but not good enough to command the number 1 slot in this offense. Now if the team will ever get over the idea that Romo is the second coming of Aikman or Staubach we will all be better off. Romo is a good player but he is not a carry the team to victory type of player and he lacks the strength of will to command the forces when the chips are down. He is good enough to lead the team just not good enough to carry it.

about damn time. Williams was a impulse sign buy jerry because he was a hometown kid. He gave the cowboys absolutely nothing in return and lost them a game last year. Marion barber is an overrated piece of shit. Guy makes a first down and has to dance and make a spectacle out of it. Leonard davis was o.k. but they overpaid for him. Good moves in my opinion. Tashard choice deserved and should get more playing time now. Got rid of all their dead weight.

Finally!!!  I have been calling for their cuts as far back as '09.  Williams was making far too much money for his every once in a while break out game.  Barber - although a tough player, has never been the same since his injuries.

Jerry - please start spending your money on productive players and not name players.  SIGN ASOMUGHA!!!!!
