Cowboys to cut Williams, Colombo, Barber, Davis

Yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens drew a ton of attention by slashing prices cutting a slew of veterans including Derrick Mason and Todd Heap. Tuesday, it was the Cowboys turn, as reports started flying that Dallas had cut wide receiver Roy Wiliams, offensive linemen Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis, kicker Kris Brown and running back Marion Barber.

None of the cuts were that surprising, particularly Barber and Williams, who seemed like likely targets to be cut when colleague Ryan Wilson wrote about the very subject just a few weeks ago.

Williams (who, by the way, just got some bling back after the most notorious mailed-wedding-ring incident of the entire offseason) makes sense as a roster expense, particularly because now the Cowboys will simply start Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, both of whom are better than Williams anyway.

Cowboys Offseason
And Barber's become the least effective back in Dallas' stable; even though Barber had more carries than Tashard Choice last season (113 to 66), he still on managed a feeble 3.3 yards per carry and an unimpressive 28.8 yards per game. Additionally, he found the end zone just four times.

The combination of just Barber and Williams will save the Cowboys nearly $10 million in terms of salary cap number, and it's become pretty clear -- based on all these cuts -- that they are in fact players in the Nnamdi Asomugha market this offseason.

Whether or not they land the coveted cornerback, though, they've probably made a slew of good roster decisions anyway.

Williams is a complete joke and has a terrible work ethic. He is out of shape and slow. He laughs at fumbles and dropped passes. Get this loser out of the NFL.

I think Roy Williams was a mistake from day one, and there is no denying that Marion Barber was not going to fit into the Jones/Choice picture. I can only hope now that the Cowboys go out and get the defensive player that they severely need.

Good to see the lockout fixed the NFL's stupid salary structure.  Still full of players holding out for more money despite being under contract, signing a five year deal, then getting cut two years into it and not being owed anything.

Please for every deal Jerry over spends he does 3 good ones.... Check out Ware's contract, or Dez, a lot of these guys could have gotten a whole lot more on the market....

Jerry gets what he wants, some people can't handle that.... One thing is for sure he is no Dan Snyder,  Jerry actaully started on a National Championship football team,  Not sit around and play techmo bowl like Snyder... so save that noise...

I hope this lakerdukeyanks guy is joking about his favorite team being every recent champion...what a joke. Besides that I wouldn't mind to see the Chargers sign any of these guys espically williams because he still is a pretty decent receiver who will find himself open often while playing along side jackson and gates

Too funny, a Lakers and Yankees fan talking about another team overpaying!  Why isnt your football team included in your name, is it because you switch alot? Money mouth

I really want Jerry Jones to stay on his spending sprees.  In 1995 he bought Deion Sanders for a meager seven-year $35 million contract with $13 million guaranteed.  In 2006 he pulled T. Owens for a three year $25 million deal only to be released in 2009.  Jerry needs to check the list and see that Brett Favre, Matt Hasselbeck, Willis McGahee, Vincent Jackson, Tiki Barber and Santana Moss are looking to be overpaid rewarded handsomely for contributing to the far future success of the Cowboys.  Jerry knows the only way to be successful is to overspend for players that no one else wants.
