Report: Santana Moss agrees to $15 million deal

He’s losing last year’s starting quarterback (possibly to Minnesota), and for now, he’ll take passes from either John Beck or Rex Grossman. Yet, Redskins WR Santana Moss has to be happy with his current situation.

MossThat’s because, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter writes, Moss has reached an agreement on a three-year deal worth $15 million with a $5 million signing bonus and $6 million guaranteed.

Moss had a strong season last year, catching 93 passes, but as CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco pointed out in his top-50 free agents piece (Moss was No. 47), he really isn’t a No. 1 WR anymore.

Moss, considering he finished third in the league in receptions last year, might disagree with that assessment.

And now he has a pretty rich contract to prove his point.

Report: Santana Moss agrees to $15 million deal

Watched Moss every game last year and he looked to me to be as quick as ever, getting open at will, as his reception total attests to. The guy is a gamer. The skins did not use him as a deep threat as much as in years past....Armstrong seemed to take a lot of the deep routes instead. I don't think it's because Moss has lost his deep speed, but more because McNabb was struggling and needed Moss to run higher percentage shorter routes. Anyway, the deal seems about right to me, as the top 15 WRs in the league(which he is not) get paid plenty more then this and he knows the skins system better then someone new coming in. Only 6 mil guaranteed plus th 5 mil bonus....it's not a bad move and keeps some continuity on offense and he can mentor the young WRs. Hankerson has the tools to develope into a legit #1 and let's face it, with the QBs they have, they got some time to develope WR's because they will not be contending this year.

Snake it makes perfect sense for Moss, at 32 this will probably be his last contract and no team other than the Redskins were offering up 15 million and 6 of that promised for him. Moss is a slot receiver at this point in his career and definitely not a number 1.

As a Redskins fan this move is weird to me, this team is in a rebuild and needs to get younger at all positions not pay top dollars for an older receiver whom depends on speed to get open.

Great for Moss, he appears to be a good guy and I'm glad he cashed in but it's a confusing move for a Redskins' fan.

IF THE REDSKINS LET REX GROSSMAN START AND BE THE QB FOR THE WHOLE YEAR...THE REDSKINS WILL BE A WILDCARD TEAM...!!! DO NOT UNERESTIMATE REX, HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES...HE GOT THE BEARS TO THE SUPERBOWL....!!!

This is nuts, but what do you expect from the Redskins? You don't spend $5 mil for a #2 WR when the rest of our team is mediocre at best.

snake hit it on the head, i agree completely that i thought moss was headed elsewhere, but he wouldnt be the star piece on pretty much any other team in NFL, so maybe he just likes all the attention. I dont think he'd get the same number of targets elsewhere

This signing doesn't make much sense, for either side.  Moss will be stuck on a team with god knows who at QB, and no legitimate shot at serious playoff contention....and the Redskins tie up cap space on what is essentially a luxury for a team with so many other pressing needs. Mind boggling.
