Free agent QB Matt Hasselbeck has a new home, and new Titans coach Mike Munchak has a new signal-caller.

Per’s Mike Freeman, the 35-year-old Hasselbeck will sign a multi-year deal with the Titans worth a reported $21 million over three years. That means the SeahawksHasselbeck’s former employer who signed Tarvaris Jackson on Tuesday – are officially done with him, and that means Vince Young is out in Tennessee.

It’s also tremendous news for rookie QB Jake Locker. With the retirement of Kerry Collins, Locker was looking at starting in Tennessee with no veteran leadership around him to let him learn.

Now, Hasselbeck probably will take the first-team snaps while Locker gets to learn what it’s like to be an NFL quarterback.

Hasselbeck's new destination
Hasselbeck also will be a good team guy, considering he helped lead the offseason Seahawks workouts, despite knowing there was a good chance he wouldn’t be back in Seattle.

In fact, Freeman thinks Tennessee made such a good move that the Titans are heading for the playoffs. While that’s still going to be a tough bet with the Colts still in the AFC South, it’s an interesting thought. Chances are, unlike last year when Hasselbeck led the 7-9 Seahawks to the postseason, Tennessee actually will have to own a winning record to make the playoffs.

Now, the next step for Tennessee: making sure RB Chris Johnson doesn’t hold out in hopes of getting more money from the Titans.

I'll keep this brief.  That is some weak trolling.  Please practice on the other boards.

Tennessee is not going to make the playoffs with Hasselbeck or the overrated Chris Johnson, who once again is holding out.   Not knocking Hasselbeck because he is one of the good guys in the NFL, but you Tennessee fans are dreaming if you think you have a playoff team because of this signing.  Tennessee will be lucky to finish 8-8 this season.  I think they will finish 7-9 and definitely out of the playoffs, even with their week schedule.  I hope Tennessee doesn't give into that gold mouth wanna be thug Johnson, he will be out of the league in 3 or 4 years, just watch.

Good pick up Titans you got a good veteran quarterback. We don't need a great quaterback right now just a quaterback that want lose the game for us. So let's hope he can stay healthy and he can take Tennessee to the playoffs.

Solid move by the Titans, Matt's a good QB who will keep the offense calm in tough situations.
He'll give them plenty of production especially given that he actually has a running game that teams have to worry about which will give him more opportunities off play action as well.
Add in that the Titans have a good offensive line which will be better with Munchak running the team now and I can't see how this isn't a big plus for the Titans.
Jake Locker won't have to start this year which is a good thing, I don't buy this nonsense that you don't draft a QB in the first round to not have him play his rookie year.
For me you give that kid at least a year maybe even a season and a half to two seasons before you look for him to be your starter.
If you're going to invest the money in him then why not make sure you put him into a live game situation  when you know that he is totally prepared for the task at hand?
I say that they should let Locker sit for that long, watch, learn from Matt and when he's ready put him in there.
Having watched Jake all 4 years at the U Dub I can tell you that it won't be long before he is ready, he's a smart kid, has all the athletic tangibles and intangibles but mroe than anything he's got it upstairs which is what a QB needs more than a rocket arm.
Matt's the consummate team player , he'll be good for that locker room and even better good for Jake Locker, congratulations Tennessee you just upgraded your QB position immensely for now and many years to come!

Hasselbeck to sign three-year deal with Titans

I think a lot of comments are missing a major point. In the NFL a 3 year deal is really more like a series of 3 options, and the only part guaranteed is normally the signing bonus and perhaps the first year and other bonuses. What is the guaranteed money? I'm sure if he does well enough to make it through 1 season or however long is needed to be the bridge to Locker, the Titans will be happy with the payout.

How is this that good?  With Locker possibly startng by mid 2011, they just got a $21mil bench warmer.  He has been good at times in his career but with the exception of 2007, hasn't had a rating of more than 76.  Nothing great, not to mention he's missed a ton of games due to injury.  The biggest problem with this signing is CJ, he'll look at what he's done for the team the past two years, and what he's getting paid, versus this 35 year old BACK UP and I wouldn't be suprised if he sits a year until they pay him more.  Bad move here.

Hopefully he can stay healthy for the year and give Locker a chance to learn NFL.

I also guess this is good-bye to Rusty Smith.
